Ronin Treasury's Million-Dollar RON Buyback: A New Era?
Sep 22, 2025 at 11:49 am
Exploring Ronin Treasury's strategic $4 million RON buyback and its potential impact on the network's future and the web3 gaming landscape.

Ronin Treasury's Million-Dollar RON Buyback: A New Era?
The Ronin Treasury is making waves with its plan to buy back over $4 million worth of RON tokens. This move aims to reduce the circulating supply, potentially driving up prices and signaling a bold step in the network's evolution. It's a calculated bet on the future of Web3 gaming and the Ronin ecosystem.
Less ETH, More RON: A Strategic Shift
The Ronin Network announced it's swapping its Ether (ETH) and USDC holdings for RON, starting September 29th. This buyback scheme will increase the amount of RON in the treasury while decreasing the tokens in circulation. Currently, 693 million out of 1 billion tokens are circulating, giving Ronin a market cap of $355.7 million.
The treasury, valued at around $5.5 million, primarily holds 896 Wrapped Ether (WETH) worth about $3.9 million, alongside 652,000 USDC, 1.2 million RON and wrapped RON, and some memecoins. These funds were accumulated through fees from the Katana DEX, Ronin Market, and Ronin Name Service over several years.
Aligning the Ecosystem: A Bet on Web3 Gaming
The Ronin team believes this buyback will “further align our ecosystem, tokenholders, and builders as Ronin evolves into a full-fledged layer-2.” They anticipate more growth as the world returns to Web3 gaming.
Ronin's Homecoming to Ethereum
Ronin is returning as a layer-2 network on Ethereum, a significant shift from its 2021 spin-off seeking faster speeds and cheaper fees for Axie Infinity. The team now sees Ethereum's resurgence and wants to be part of it, stating, “Ronin’s Homecoming to Ethereum is approaching. Wall Street is jumping into our industry.”
The Road to Recovery
The network faced challenges after the $600 million Ronin Bridge hack in March 2022. Total value locked fell from $1.2 billion to around $56 million. This buyback could be a move to restore confidence and rebuild the ecosystem.
Market Reaction and Future Outlook
RON prices initially spiked 11% to $0.54 following the announcement but later fell back to $0.51. Still, this move represents approximately 1.3% of RON’s current circulating supply, and the treasury has no plans to sell any. While RON is down 88% from its March 2024 all-time high of $4.45, this buyback strategy could inject new life into the token.
PUMP's Playbook: Lessons for Ronin?
It's interesting to consider parallels with tokens like PUMP on Solana. PUMP has seen significant price growth through aggressive buyback programs, funded by platform revenue. Pump.fun has spent over $62.6 million to repurchase PUMP tokens, creating deflationary pressure and driving upward momentum. While Ronin's approach is different, the underlying principle of reducing circulating supply to support price stability is similar. Could Ronin learn from PUMP's success? Perhaps!
Final Thoughts: A Strategic Gamble?
Ronin's buyback represents a pivotal moment for the network. Whether it's a masterstroke or a calculated risk remains to be seen. One thing is for sure: all eyes are on Ronin as it navigates this new chapter. This isn't just about reducing circulating supply; it's about signaling confidence and positioning Ronin for long-term success in the evolving Web3 landscape. Only time will tell if this treasury maneuver will pay off, but for now, buckle up and enjoy the ride!
