Ripple's RLUSD: Burning Tokens, Building Stability, and Buzz in the Crypto Space
Sep 09, 2025 at 07:59 pm
Explore Ripple's strategic RLUSD token burns, surging trading volume, and real-world adoption by companies like VivoPower. Is this stablecoin the future of payments?

Ripple's RLUSD: Burning Tokens, Building Stability, and Buzz in the Crypto Space
Ripple is making waves with its RLUSD stablecoin. Strategic token burns, increased adoption, and a growing presence in cross-border payments are all contributing to the buzz.
RLUSD Token Burn: A Strategic Move
Ripple executed a significant token burn of over 2.71 million RLUSD on September 9th, marking the largest in weeks. This follows smaller burns earlier in September and late August. According to Ripple, these burns are a standard practice to manage RLUSD supply, removing excess tokens when dollars return to reserves. This helps maintain the stablecoin's peg to the US dollar.
Think of it like this: when too many RLUSD tokens are floating around, Ripple takes some out of circulation to keep the value stable, just like a central bank might do with its national currency.
Trading Volume Surges
The market is reacting positively. RLUSD is trading close to $1, boasting a market capitalization exceeding $728 million. Trading volume has spiked, soaring 88% in 24 hours to $88.51 million. RLUSD is also recognized as a top 10 stablecoin by market capitalization. People are clearly taking notice.
VivoPower Adopts RLUSD for Payments
Real-world adoption is key, and VivoPower International's electric vehicle subsidiary, Tembo e-LV, is now accepting RLUSD for payments. Tembo operates in Southeast Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, where traditional wire transfers can be slow and expensive. RLUSD offers a faster, cheaper alternative for international transactions.
Bill Morgan pointed out that VivoPower is currently only accepting RLUSD, not XRP. While RLUSD exists on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, the majority of its supply is on Ethereum.
Ripple's European Expansion
Ripple isn't just focused on stablecoins; it's also expanding its reach in Europe. A partnership with BBVA, Spain's second-largest bank, will provide crypto custody technology, supporting BBVA's new retail crypto trading and storage service.
The Bigger Picture: RLUSD and the Future of Payments
RLUSD launched with the goal of being an enterprise-ready stablecoin for real-world payments. It operates on both the XRP Ledger and Ethereum, enhancing its utility and interoperability. Since the beginning of 2025, RLUSD’s market cap has increased tenfold. The adoption of RLUSD by VivoPower and the strategic token burns suggest a growing confidence in its stability and utility.
A Contrarian Perspective: Meme Coins vs. Stablecoins
While RLUSD focuses on stability, the meme coin market is all about volatility. Take Arctic Pablo Coin (APC), for example. APC uses engineered scarcity (token burns) and community incentives to drive value, with some analysts projecting massive ROI for early adopters. While meme coins like APC offer the potential for quick gains, RLUSD provides a more grounded approach to digital payments. Ultimately, different strokes for different folks!
Wrapping Up
Ripple's RLUSD is making some serious noise in the crypto world. From strategic token burns to real-world adoption and European expansion, Ripple is positioning itself as a key player in the future of digital payments. Will RLUSD become the go-to stablecoin for businesses and consumers alike? Only time will tell, but things are definitely heating up!
