Will Ripple Reclaim the Psychologically Important $1 Level by 2025?

More commonly known as Ripple, the XRP (XRP -0.05%) cryptocurrency seems to be in dire straits nowadays. Though it once soared to a short-lived peak of $3.09 per coin, Ripple hasn't touched the $1 benchmark since the spring of 2022.

Ripple hasn’t come close to the $1 benchmark since spring 2022, despite briefly reaching a peak of $3.09 per coin. And the coin doesn’t always follow the broader crypto market trends — Ripple has dropped 15% over the last year while Bitcoin (BTC -1.40%) and Ethereum (ETH 1.26%) prices have risen by 133% and 75%, respectively.

But I see brighter days ahead for Ripple and its early investors. It looks ready to revisit that psychologically important $1 level in 2025. That’s a lofty proposal with a 64% upside from today’s Ripple prices, but I’m pretty convinced it will happen.

Now let me tell you why I might be wrong.

Why I’m wrongPredicting the future price of any cryptocurrency is notoriously difficult, and Ripple is no exception.

The crypto market is highly volatile, being influenced by regulatory changes, technological advancements, and investor sentiment. In addition to this sectorwide volatility, Ripple faces significant legal challenges, which adds another layer of uncertainty. Just before the holidays in 2020, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sued the Ripple Labs organization, alleging that Ripple and its executives made $1.3 billion by selling an unregistered digital security.

If the legal outcome is unfavorable, it will almost certainly hurt Ripple’s price. Furthermore, competition from other cryptocurrencies with more advanced features or stronger ecosystems could limit Ripple’s growth potential.

So there’s a non-zero risk that Ripple’s digital coin will remain below $1 for the foreseeable future. In a worst-case scenario, the SEC’s legal challenge could destroy the RippleNet global payment system, rendering its native XRP coin worthless in the long run.

Why I’m rightOn the other hand, several factors favor Ripple. I’m leaving the expected rise in Bitcoin prices out of this equation since the two currencies have trended in opposite directions recently. I’m still left with a substantial list of potential Ripple-boosting forces:

Some of these upsides will take time to deliver market-moving benefits. The CBDC projects are already years in the making and shouldn’t be rushed. Also, some of Ripple’s CBDC ideas don’t directly involve the XRP currency, so the direct impact on today’s Ripple investors could be minimal.

Still, RippleNet is a promising service, and the value of the integrated coin could benefit from all of the factors above. That should be more than enough to quickly reclaim the lost $1 level.

Diversification and patienceMind you, it’s not “$1 or bust” for Ripple in 2025. I expect Ripple to generate strong long-term gains as the global crypto market matures, regardless of whether the cryptocurrency rises, holds steady, or even declines over the next year and a half.

Investing in Ripple can be exciting, but it’s crucial to maintain a cool head and a diversified portfolio. The crypto market is volatile, and concentrating all of your assets in a single location, especially a single altcoin like Ripple, can be dangerous.

By holding a diverse range of digital assets and waiting for the market to mature, you increase your chances of long-term success. So yes, it’s cool to invest in Ripple, but don’t bet the farm on any one idea. That hypothetical worst-case scenario may be unlikely — but the risk is genuine.
