Ripple Pledges $25M in RLUSD to Support Teachers in the US
May 06, 2025 at 01:48 am

Teacher Appreciation Week is kicking off in the US, and with threats of cuts to education funding, the industry could use some extra help.
In this environment, Ripple has identified an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the sector with its new stablecoin, RLUSD.
This Week, the firm announced a $25 million contribution to DonorsChoose and Teach For America, two major non-profits in the education sector. The majority of the grant will be delivered in RLUSD.
“We’re proud to support US teachers and classrooms through Ripple’s $25 million commitment to DonorsChoose and Teach For America. Delivered primarily through RLUSD, it’s a meaningful example of how stablecoins can drive real-world impact—starting in the classroom,” said Eric van Miltenburg, Ripple’s SVP of Strategic Initiatives.
The non-profit DonorsChoose provides a platform for teachers to request donations for specific projects and materials that they need for their students.
According to its website, DonorsChoose has funded more than 1.6 million classroom projects since 2000, totaling over $1 billion in contributions.
Meanwhile, Teach For America is a non-profit organization that recruits and trains college graduates to teach for two years in low-income communities.
The organization says that it has placed more than 90,000 teachers in schools in over 50 cities and towns across the U.S.
Together, the three organizations will support all-purpose education resources across public schools in the short term.
Later, the partners will also “support new initiatives focused on financial literacy.” DonorsChoose’s announcement prominently credited Ripple’s RLUSD contribution but also mentioned Good Morning America, a television program, and Eli Manning, a famous football player.
In other words, it might not be easy to prioritize financial literacy and other economics-centric education if other major donors aren’t as interested.
DonorsChoose also mentions $10 million in funding, not $25 million. Ripple’s press release states that most of the grant will be delivered in RLUSD, but it doesn’t go into specifics. The non-profit might be indicating that $10 million was the proportion donated in fiat.
In any event, this is not Ripple’s first major charitable donation using RLUSD. In January, the firm pledged $50,000 to fight wildfires in California, but $25 million is a much larger contribution.
The massive increase in scale may reflect an increased focus on PR; for example, the firm has outwardly portrayed RLUSD as compliant with impending stablecoin regulations.
This contribution comes amid a string of positivity for Ripple. Between the SEC lawsuit getting dropped and XRP ETF optimism, the crypto community is in high spirits.
As seen on the official social media post from DonorsChoose, several community members, even outside of the crypto industry, are praising Ripple for their philanthropic efforts.
