Ripple and OpenEden Join Hands to Tokenize US Treasury Bill on XRP Ledger

The objective of the partnership is to bring the US Treasury Bill to XRP Ledger. The larger initiative aims to tokenize every tangible real-world asset and traditional financial security.

Ripple and OpenEden Join Hands to Tokenize US Treasury Bill on XRP Ledger

Ripple has joined forces with OpenEden in an initiative to bring the US Treasury Bill to the XRP Ledger. As part of this partnership, Ripple will allocate $10 million in funds to the tokenization platform. OpenEden will issue the short-term US government debt as T-Bill tokens, which will be used to invest in short-dated US Treasury bonds and repos (reverse purchase agreements).

This partnership aims to tokenize every tangible real-world asset and traditional financial security. The goal is to create a system where traditional assets are issued and dispersed more efficiently than through their traditional mechanisms.

Ripple has confirmed the development, but the timing of the fund allocation is still unclear. OpenEden has also not yet announced a tentative commencement date.

This news comes after Ripple stated that US banks would want to use their native digital currency following their partial victory against the US SEC. Both parties still need to reach a final verdict. Ripple's statement was made in mid-July 2024, when they were confident about fully winning the case.

The blockchain startup aimed to achieve a heightened level of recognition, making the use of XRP in cross-border transactions a tangible reality. Some members have not taken the news well, with reports stating that Bank of America approved the use of XRP for payment and a deal between Ripple and the SEC.

Many members said it was either fake or an unconfirmed development.

However, Ripple has confirmed that it has made progress in tokenizing the US Treasury Bills. A similar move was made by BlackRock in March of this year, 2024, when they launched their US Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, which was backed by US Treasury Bills, cash, and a repo agreement. At the time, BlackRock launched the fund on the Ethereum blockchain.

These emotions have yet to be reflected in XRP, the native token of Ripple. At the time of writing, it was down by 4.81%. The token has fallen in the last 24 hours, bringing its value to $0.5777. It also indicates a 4.69% reduction in the last 7 days and a 20.51% increase in the last 30 days. XRP is expected to rise by 20.69% in the next 30 days, reaching a market price of $0.706152.
