Ripple CTO David Schwartz Asserts XRPL Is Fully Decentralized

Aug 18, 2024 at 09:46 pm

Ripple's CTO, David Schwartz, has recently cleared certain misunderstandings circulating on social media about the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Ripple CTO David Schwartz Asserts XRPL Is Fully Decentralized

Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO) David Schwartz has recently addressed certain misconceptions circulating on social media regarding the classification of the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

Schwartz’s clarification came in response to an XRPL user who expressed concern over some documents referring to XRPL as “permissioned” or “trusted.” The CTO dismissed these labels, asserting that they fail to capture the true nature of the decentralized network.

Ripple CTO Affirms XRPL’s Complete Decentralization

During his presentation, Schwartz highlighted that XRPL is a permissionless system, indicating that no single entity holds control over it—a characteristic that directly opposes the labels “permissioned” or “trusted” that are often applied to the network.

He went on to explain that XRPL’s consensus mechanism is decentralized, with validators collectively maintaining the network, rendering it impossible for any single entity to monopolize power. This setup eliminates the need for a central operator to oversee all transactions on the XRPL.

I think it's total nonsense. Many things about blockchains are very important, but it's largely irrelevant how exactly they solve the double spend problem. What possible impact does it have?

Schwartz also noted that XRPL is particularly efficient in addressing the double-spending problem, which has been a major challenge in the digital currency realm.

However, he expressed less concern with the specific manner in which blockchains achieve this goal, stating that XRPL’s ability to completely eliminate this issue further solidifies its status as a decentralized and open network.

David Schwartz to Discuss Institutional DeFi at Upcoming Event

David Schwartz is set to further elaborate on these topics at the upcoming Permissionless event, where he will be presenting on the second day of the conference.

His session will delve into the subject of institutional decentralized finance (DeFi). This marks the first time Schwartz will be participating in the conference, highlighting his growing involvement in blockchain and DeFi.

According to Schwartz, Ripple is very interested in the advancement of blockchain, and he will be contributing to the event by澄清一些围绕 XRPL及其共识机制的误解。此外,会议还将深入探讨机构 DeFi 及其中 XRPL 定位的话题。

XRP Price Drops to $0.90 Amidst Market Shift

The price of XRP stood at $0.90 at the time of this article's publication, showing a slight decrease from the previous day's value.

The cryptocurrency experienced a 0.15% decline over the last 24 hours, and its last price was noted to be $0.5669. This minor drop can be observed within the context of broader changes occurring across the crypto market, impacting several cryptocurrencies.

Despite this, XRP continues to maintain its presence in the digital currency market, remaining a subject of interest among investors and industry professionals. XRP has not been immune to the volatility that still characterizes market trends, and its price is likely to be influenced by the further developments of Ripple and XRP.
