Rare Penny Worth a Staggering £150,000 - But There's a Catch

Brits are constantly being urged to check their rare coin stash. In recent months, coins have been seriously hot topic with a "new" error £1 hitting headlines earlier this week.

Rare Penny Worth a Staggering £150,000 - But There's a Catch

A rare penny from 1933 could make you rich - but only if you have the coin with the specific date on it, a TikTok user has revealed.

Coin collector @CoinCollectingWizard, who boasts 205,000 followers on the social media platform, regularly shares tips on how to spot valuable coins.

In a recent video, he discussed a rare penny which is worth a staggering £150,000.

He said: "Attention this coin is worth at least £150,000.

"This is the 1933 pre-decimal penny from the United Kingdom. Now obviously I don't have the coin, this is a fake copy version.

"Do you have this coin from 1933? If so you are rich."

But before you get too excited and start emptying your piggy banks, there are duplicates of the coin out there which might fool you into thinking you've hit the jackpot.

To authenticate such a find, the crucial detail is the 1933 date stamp.

He added: "But I guarantee you do not have this coin, how do I know? Because it's one of the rarest coins ever produced, there are other dates on those old pennies you might have though and some do hold a decent value.

"But it's never going to have the crazy value of the 1933 penny, as only seven are known to exist."

The @CoinCollectingWizard also mentioned he receives thousands of messages daily from followers who think they've struck gold, but often they overlook a crucial detail - the date.

To identify the pennies that could fetch a fortune, checking the date is essential, and the coin guru is ready to assist those in need.

He added: "There are other dates to look out for, but obviously not as the same value as the 1933 penny."

The post has since gone viral, garnering nearly 1,000 likes and numerous comments.

One intrigued follower commented: "You have my attention."

While another emphatically noted: "Has to be 1933!"
