This Rare Penny Could Be Worth $2.3 Million—Here's How to Spot It

There are quarters floating around out there that could be worth up to $10,000. But that is peanuts compared what a 1943-D Lincoln Bronze Wheat Penny could bring.

How much are we talking?

Well, that particular penny can fetch as much as $2.3 million.

Designed by Victor D. Brenner, this is one of the highest-value pennies in circulation today. During World War II, pennies were made of steel to save copper for the war effort. However, a few were mistakenly made of bronze, and these are extremely rare and valuable. Made of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc alloy, it sold for $1.7 million in 2010 but is valued at $2.3 in mint uncirculated condition.

There is a catch. Apparently, there is only one of those pennies known to be in existence, however there could be others. And, even if you don’t have one of those extremely rare pennies, there are other wheat pennies that can fetch big bucks.

The site suggests that, if while sifting through your change jar you do come across a 1943 wheat penny, you take it to a coin dealer to check the value.

GoBankingRates also said that the 1944-S Steel Wheat Penny could fetch as much as $1.1 million with “circulating coins” going for as much as $408,000 to $409,000.
