Rare 50p Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit coin is being sold for over £4,000

A rare 50p coin is being sold by a Swindon-based coin collector for over £4,000.

The 2016 coin is being sold on eBay for £4,586.72 and features an image of children's author Beatrix Potter's most well known character, Peter Rabbit, from The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

The collector's item also honours the year she was born and the year she died.

Sellers of Beatrix Potter coins can ask for huge sums of money on the online marketplace, with another Beatrix Potter coin, featuring Mr Jeremy Fisher, listed for £8,086.72 in March and another depicting Peter Rabbit for over £3,000.

The listing describes the coin as: "The Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit 50p coin, issued in 2016, is a British decimal coin featuring the beloved character Peter Rabbit from the children's book series.

"This coin is part of a special collection commemorating the works of author Beatrix Potter, making it a popular and collectible item among coin enthusiasts and fans of her timeless stories.

"The 50p denomination adds to its appeal as a unique and charming piece of British coinage."

The seller has also listed postage as £8.35 via Royal Mail Special Delivery.
