Remarkable Coin Collection Auction Surpasses Expectations

Madison, Wisconsin - An exceptional coin collection from a central Wisconsin estate fetched an astounding $895,371 at auction on Wednesday, significantly surpassing the pre-sale estimate by an impressive 25%, according to an official press release.

The highlight of the auction was the exceedingly rare 1879 $4 Gold Stella, which ignited a fierce bidding war among six collectors before selling for a staggering $147,600. This gold coin, minted in a mere 425 pieces, boasted an exceptional grade of PR-63 and impeccable authentication by the prestigious Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). The auction's sale price marks a record high for a Stella of this particular grade, according to PCGS.

The collection, meticulously curated over a lifetime by a private collector, was entrusted to Leonard Auction, a renowned auction house with branches in Chicago, Madison, and Milwaukee. "Discovering the Stella nestled amongst hundreds of other coins was an exhilarating moment," remarked Laura Duguid, Wisconsin's regional sales director. "The family was overjoyed when we informed them of this hidden treasure within their father's collection."

The auction also witnessed the sale of other notable coins, including a coveted Quarter Eagle gold set that realized $12,125, an impressive US gold type set that fetched $11,625, and an exquisite Peace $1 set that garnered $9,480.

The extraordinary success of this auction underscores the enduring fascination and value associated with rare and collectible coins. The collection, testament to its meticulous assembly and the enduring craftsmanship of its coins, has found its rightful place among discerning collectors who appreciate the rarity and historical significance of numismatic treasures.
