The Coin Collecting Wizard, a notable numismatic enthusiast, has alerted collectors on TikTok to be vigilant for a unique British coin that could be exceptionally valuable.

Rare British 1952 penny could be worth a staggering £200k

A coin collecting enthusiast has highlighted a rare British coin that could be worth up to £200,000 if found. The 1952 proof penny is exceptionally valuable due to its limited production and unique characteristics.

Unlike regular currency, proof coins are special early samples of a coin issue, boasting the highest quality produced by the mint. The rarity of this particular penny is attributed to its creation just before King George VI's death in 1952.

The coin's existence was unknown until one surfaced at a numismatic auction in October 1997, decades after it was minted. As the expert stated, "The existence of this unique 1952 proof penny was not known publicly until its initial appearance at a numismatic [the study or collection of currency] auction in October of 1997, some 45 years after it was struck."

The 1952 proof penny is the only unique proof striking of a pre-decimal penny of the 20th century, making it an exceptionally rare and valuable coin.
