Proton, a privacy app developer, has introduced a new open-source Bitcoin-only wallet that allows sending Bitcoin via email.

Proton, a company known for its privacy-focused applications, has introduced a new open-source Bitcoin-only wallet that allows users to send BTC via email. This private wallet provides users with complete control over their digital assets, according to a July 24 statement shared with CryptoSlate.

Proton Wallet simplifies Bitcoin transactions, enabling users to send the top cryptocurrency as effortlessly as an email. The wallet aims to make Bitcoin more accessible and encourage its adoption as a decentralized payment method. According to the company, users in over 150 countries can use the wallet to purchase Bitcoin directly.

The wallet boasts several features, including enhanced security measures that leverage Proton’s existing infrastructure to safeguard user privacy. Each time a user transacts, the firm also stated that it will rotate Bitcoin addresses to further help protect their privacy.

Two-factor authentication and Proton Sentinel, which uses artificial intelligence to prevent malicious login attempts, are also supported by the wallet.

The value of Bitcoin to society has been impacted by the difficulty of transacting and security concerns, according to Andy Yen, Founder and CEO of Proton, and we created Proton Wallet to specifically address both. Now that Proton Wallet supports Bitcoin via Email, Bitcoin transactions are as simple to use as PayPal, yet the decentralized and non-custodial nature of Bitcoin is preserved.

Proton built a Bitcoin-centric wallet and why

Given Proton’s non-crypto background, its decision to create a Bitcoin wallet comes as a surprise. The business has never issued a digital asset, engaged in any trading or speculation involving cryptocurrencies, or operated as an exchange.

However, Proton is quite familiar with Bitcoin and has been a long-time supporter of the leading digital asset. The company said that it includes Bitcoin in its financial reserves, and the launch of the Proton Wallet is a significant step toward safeguarding users' economic freedom.

Proton encountered the traditional financial sector's hazards firsthand, according to Dingchao Lu, Director of Proton Wallet. Our assets were briefly frozen by PayPal in 2014, almost putting an end to Proton before it even got started. We want to reduce the world's reliance on centralized financial institutions with the launch of Proton Wallet.
