NEAR Protocol's TVL Recovery: Is a Rebound on the Horizon?
Sep 27, 2025 at 04:00 pm
Analyzing NEAR Protocol's TVL dip and potential recovery, examining on-chain data, market trends, and expert insights for savvy crypto investors.

NEAR Protocol, while facing headwinds, shows glimmers of recovery. This analysis dives into the recent TVL slump and explores potential rebound scenarios.
NEAR's Bumpy Ride: TVL and Transaction Declines
Recently, NEAR Protocol experienced a notable dip. The Total Value Locked (TVL), a key indicator of a protocol's health, plunged, decreasing 12% to $165 million after $20.5 million flowed out. This decline coincided with a drop in on-chain activity, with daily transactions falling to a September low of 4.3 million. This suggests fewer users were actively engaging with the protocol, impacting demand.
Spot Investors to the Rescue?
Despite the TVL slump, off-chain investors, or Spot investors, stepped in, accumulating NEAR. On September 26th, they absorbed $3.3 million worth of the token, and the total purchased that week amounted to $21.59 million. Interestingly, NEAR's protocol revenue also saw a corresponding increase, while DEX trading volume held steady around $53 million.
Technical Indicators: A Potential Upside?
Technical analysis offers a mixed bag. Analyst Shah Faisal Shah suggests a potential dip to $2.60, which he identifies as an accumulation zone that could trigger a significant rebound toward $7, representing a 140% increase from current levels. The $2.60 level acts as psychological support and a technical base. However, failure to defend this level could weaken momentum and delay any rally.
Currently, NEAR trades around $2.81. On the daily chart, major exponential moving averages are tightly clustered, signaling indecision and often preceding a strong breakout. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) sits at 50, indicating a neutral position, leaving room for a sharp move.
Staking and Open Interest: Underlying Strength
Nearly half of NEAR Protocol's supply is locked in staking, with 575.3 million NEAR staked out of a total supply of 1.27 billion. High staking levels reduce the available tokens on exchanges, potentially amplifying price movements when demand rises. Furthermore, open interest in NEAR contracts has climbed to approximately $421 million, suggesting greater speculation and capital commitment.
The Whale Factor
In a separate development, a notable Ethereum whale moved $800 million worth of ETH to deposit into Plasma vaults, highlighting the DeFi opportunities emerging on new chains. This influx of capital underscores the dynamic nature of the crypto space, with investors actively seeking out yield and innovation.
Looking Ahead: Recovery or Further Decline?
The Binance NEAR/USDT Liquidation Map shows large long-side clusters above $2.65, suggesting a potential upside sweep if buyers gain momentum. If liquidation pockets above that level are triggered, NEAR could push toward $2.80–$2.90 before facing resistance.
Final Thoughts
NEAR Protocol's journey is one of resilience. While recent declines in TVL and transactions raise concerns, the accumulation by spot investors, high staking levels, and rising open interest suggest underlying strength. Whether NEAR can capitalize on these factors and stage a full recovery remains to be seen, but for now, all eyes are on that $2.60 level. Keep your eyes peeled, crypto fam – this story's far from over!
