Polkadot's Dev Action Drops, Network Activity Soars

Apr 27, 2024 at 11:00 pm

Despite a decrease in development activity, Polkadot (DOT) witnessed a surge in network activity. While blockchains like Ethereum and BNB Chain surpassed DOT in development, its network activity surged with a spike in daily active addresses and transactions. However, the token's price faced bearish pressure, dropping 1.5% weekly and 2% within 24 hours.

Polkadot's Dev Action Drops, Network Activity Soars

Polkadot's Development Activity Dips While Network Activity Surges

Polkadot (DOT), a renowned blockchain platform, has recently experienced a decline in development activity, while its network activity has witnessed a notable surge.

According to data from Coin98 Analytics, Polkadot registered 827 developers last week, with over 5000 weekly code commits. While this figure is substantial, it falls short of other prominent blockchains such as Ethereum (ETH) and BNB Chain. ETH recorded over 2000 weekly developers with 19,000 commits, while BNB Chain's weekly commits exceeded 6,000.

Other blockchains that outperformed DOT in development activity include Polygon (MATIC) and Optimism (OP), with weekly commits of 6,300 and 5,200, respectively.

Analysis of data from Santiment further corroborates this decline in DOT's development activity over the past seven days. However, despite this drop, the blockchain's developer activity contributor count has spiked multiple times last week.

Interestingly, while DOT's development activity has diminished, its network activity has registered a significant spike. Data from Artemis reveals that after a period of dormancy, DOT's daily active addresses rose considerably on April 24th. This increase in active addresses has also been accompanied by a corresponding surge in daily transaction count.

Bears Target DOT

Meanwhile, Polkadot has faced bearish pressure, with the token's price declining on the charts. According to CoinMarketCap, DOT lost over 1.5% of its value in the past seven days and 2% in the last 24 hours alone. At the time of writing, DOT was trading at $6.70 with a market capitalization of over $9.6 billion.

DOT's funding rate has also risen over the past few days, indicating bearish sentiments as prices tend to move inversely to the funding rate. However, Polkadot's open interest has also declined, suggesting a potential shift in market trend.

Despite these bearish indicators, DOT's Money Flow Index (MFI) has shown a sharp uptick, approaching the neutral level, potentially foreshadowing a price hike. Additionally, DOT's price is resting under its 20-day Simple Moving Average (SMA), with a successful breakout above this level signaling a potential bullish reversal on the charts.

Conclusion

Polkadot's recent decline in development activity suggests a shift in focus, while the surge in network activity indicates increased usage and adoption. The bearish pressure on the token's price could be attributed to broader market sentiments and technical factors. However, DOT's technical indicators hint at a possible change in trend. Investors should closely monitor the market dynamics and DOT's price action to determine the direction of its future price movement.
