The party is over for AI agents. Markets, usually at the mercy of their legendary volatility, have hit hard, and AI agent tokens have not been spared. In just a few days, these digital assets saw their value plummet. Between severe corrections and disillusionment, the AI agent token sector faces a harsh reality, with losses sometimes reaching 55%. A look back at a dark week for these cryptocurrencies.
Plunge of AI Agents: A Disturbed Ecosystem
AI agent tokens, revolutionizing the crypto world and once the darlings of the market, are experiencing a true storm. The flagship token FEI-0168, which funds a DAO-managed fund and the Eliza OS agent, saw its price drop by 50% in one week, falling from $2.26 to $1.10. Its market capitalization collapsed to $1.1 billion.
The Virtuals Protocol, specializing in decentralized digital assistants, suffered a similar plunge: -48% over seven days, with a dip to $2.6. And what about the token Swarms, plummeting from $0.5 to $0.2, a token, which saw its value decrease by 55%.
Even unusual projects, like the meme currency Goatseus Maximus, are not escaping the correction, collapsing by 40%.
Some key figures on the drop:
This correction reflects a market in search of seriousness. Between solid projects and mere marketing tools, the boundary seems to be clarifying.
Crypto Market: From Euphoria to Disillusionment
While the integration of linguistic models into cryptos has captivated the crowds, their appeal is waning. The frenzy surrounding AI agents, capable of interacting on X or via digital wallets, saw their global valuation peak at $15 billion in January.
Today, this same valuation has reduced to $12.55 billion.
Criticism is rampant. Dragonfly Managing Partner Haseeb Qureshi does not mince his words:
“These AI agents are closer to chatbots with memecoins than anything else. They post on X, but their autonomy is largely overestimated.”
A disillusion shared by investors, whose distrust is beginning to weigh on prices.
Meanwhile, a tweet from CoinMarketCap highlights an intriguing turn:
“AI agents will dominate crypto by 2025. A billionaire VC has already been convinced by these bots. This is just the beginning.”
This rekindles the debates about the future of smart cryptos, but also the disappointed expectations regarding overly ambitious promises.
Thus, 2025 marks a turning point: memecoins, long at the center of attention, are making way for AI agents. It remains to be seen whether they can prove their real value or if they will remain just a passing fad.
