Pi Network (PI) Sets Record with the Largest and Most Valuable Crypto Airdrop Following Its Mainnet Launch and Exchange Listings

Feb 21, 2025 at 01:15 am

Pi Network (PI) Sets Record with the Largest and Most Valuable Crypto Airdrop Following Its Mainnet Launch and Exchange Listings

Crypto airdrop records have been shattered by Pi Network (PI) following its mainnet launch and exchange listings. Pi Network has broken the record previously set by Uniswap's airdrop.

A report by Bitget shows that the Uniswap airdrop was valued at $6.43 billion in 2020. Pi Network has now surpassed that figure, reaching $12.6 billion. This sets a new record with 6.3 billion PI tokens in circulation and an initial price of about $2.

While traditional airdrops typically reward early adopters, Pi Network's airdrop is focused on mass participation. Since 2019, millions of people have been mining PI on their phones, contributing to the project's large and engaged community.

Before the launch, several exchanges, including Bitget and BitMart, offered PI airdrops and giveaways. As the mainnet went live, major exchanges like OKX and Bitget quickly listed PI for spot and futures trading, boosting its accessibility and popularity among traders.

With the launch of its Open phase, Pi Network is now fully connected to external networks, enabling seamless integration with other blockchains and financial systems. The team highlighted that the Open Network expands Pi's ecosystem, allowing for new applications and peer-to-peer transactions beyond its internal system.

This phase also paves the way for connections with centralized exchanges (CEXs) and onramps, making it easier to acquire and utilize Pi. Furthermore, it introduces more third-party services and Node updates.

Despite breaking records, Pi Network faces challenges such as regulatory scrutiny and skepticism regarding its mining model. Some speculate that it might encounter difficulties similar to Hamster Kombat, which had high initial hype but later struggled.

The starting price of PI was around $1.3, and it surged past $2, but has since dropped to $0.8783, showing a decline of over 40% in 24 hours. This decrease is attributed to sell-offs by early miners and holders of the token.

The Pi Network team is focused on building a decentralized and scalable ecosystem, and the project's future will be closely watched in the coming months to see if it can sustain its momentum.
