Onchain Payments Revolution: Circle, Permit2, and the Future of Finance
Nov 25, 2025 at 11:00 am
Explore how Circle's integration of Permit2 is streamlining onchain payments, enhancing security, and shaping the future of finance with USDC and EURC.

The world of onchain payments is buzzing with innovation, and at the forefront are Circle, with their USDC and EURC stablecoins, and the Permit2 standard. Let's dive into how these players are reshaping the landscape.
Circle & Permit2: A Match Made in Onchain Heaven
Circle's Payment Network (CPN) has taken a giant leap forward by integrating Uniswap's Permit2. This isn't just a minor tweak; it's a strategic move to simplify and secure onchain payment settlements. According to Circle, this enhancement streamlines the payment experience for developers using USDC and EURC.
Simpler Payments, Happier Developers
The Onchain Transaction V2 upgrade abstracts away blockchain processing fees, allowing users to pay in USDC. No more juggling native tokens! Transactions now use EIP-712 typed data for signing, eliminating the need for raw transaction management. Plus, CPN automates broadcasting and expedites transactions for timely settlements.
Why Permit2?
Circle's shift from ERC-3009 to Permit2 is all about flexibility and interoperability. ERC-3009 required each token to implement its own transferWithAuthorization method, leading to fragmentation. Permit2, on the other hand, abstracts token approvals into a shared contract, simplifying the developer experience across the ERC-20 ecosystem.
How Permit2 Works Its Magic
Permit2 manages the authorization layer, while the PaymentSettlement Contract handles transaction verification. The Relayer Service facilitates relaying and blockchain processing fees, ensuring an efficient and secure payment process. It involves a master approval where the Originating Financial Institution (OFI) grants Permit2 an ERC-20 allowance, and a sub-approval for each payment, designating the PaymentSettlement Contract as the spender.
Bitget and Morph Chain: Expanding the Ecosystem
Meanwhile, exchanges like Bitget are also making strides in onchain payments. Bitget's integration with Morph Chain, an Ethereum L2 network, allows users to trade assets within the Morph ecosystem directly with USDT from their Bitget spot wallets. This streamlines access to on-chain liquidity without leaving the platform.
Circle's Strong Foundation
Despite market fluctuations, Circle's USDC market cap remains resilient. Investment bank William Blair even sees Circle (along with Coinbase) as a buying opportunity, particularly in cross-border B2B payments. They view Coinbase as the broader crypto gateway and Circle as the cleaner bet on USDC's growth.
The Future is Onchain
The integration of Permit2 with Circle's PaymentSettlement Contract is a game-changer. By enabling signature-based approvals and automating transaction management, Circle is providing a faster, more secure, and efficient payment solution for developers working with stablecoins.
The trend towards onchain payments is clear, and companies like Circle, with their innovative use of standards like Permit2, are leading the charge. So buckle up, because the future of finance is happening right before our eyes, and it's all on the blockchain!
