OKX Temporarily Suspends Its DEX Aggregator Services to Implement More Robust Security Measures
Mar 18, 2025 at 02:02 am
OKX temporarily suspended its DEX aggregator services to implement more robust security measures following hacker activities of concern.

Crypto exchange OKX has announced the temporary suspension of its decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator services. The move follows reports of concerning hacker activities and aims to prevent the exploitation of its services and prioritize the safety of its users.
In a blog post on its website, OKX explained that the initial cause of the suspension was improper tagging on blockchain explorers. This tagging is crucial for platforms to track and sort transactions effectively. However, improper end-to-end identification raised worries about hackers exploiting OKX’s services.
The exchange identified coordinated efforts by the notorious Lazarus Group to exploit its DeFi services. To counter these risks, OKX has introduced a dedicated hacker detection system for its DEX aggregator. This system will continuously monitor known hacker addresses and immediately freeze them to avoid any unauthorized transactions.
While this freeze will impact the DEX aggregator services, it’s important to note that the broader OKX wallet services are unaffected by this change. However, in the course of this broader security update, the exchange will also be freezing the creation of new wallets in some markets.
European regulators have also been examining some of the leading crypto platforms' Web3 services, such as Bybit, in the wake of major hacks. The Lazarus Group is being implicated in these hacks, such as the one on Bybit, where an attempt to launder $100 million of stolen funds via decentralized platforms is being reported.
These cases will be crucial in setting an example for the new MiCA regulations, which are being rapidly deployed throughout the European Union.
The Bybit hack, which is estimated to be around $1.4 billion, is among the biggest cryptocurrency heists to date.
Although Bybit is still monitoring the hacker addresses and has announced that it will be freezing any detected activity by the Lazarus Group, there is no indication that the stolen funds have been recovered.
On the other hand, OKX is being more proactive in securing its platform as it faces increasing regulatory and media scrutiny. The roll-out of a dedicated hacker detection system is a key step to fortify the security of its DeFi ecosystem.
In a related development, OKX recently introduced a new detection tool for its OKX Web3 platform just days prior to the announced suspension of its DEX aggregator services. The company also has a real-time monitoring system to track malicious wallet addresses, which will allow its centralized exchange to ban any unauthorized transactions.
It’s worth noting that the OKX Web3 platform is non-custodial, meaning that the company doesn't store users’ assets. The company stated that the suspension of its DEX aggregator services is temporary and part of broader efforts to strengthen its overall security infrastructure.
