Oasis Network Resurges with $160M Fund for Privacy-Driven Blockchain Development

May 04, 2024 at 09:03 pm

Oasis Network, a dormant layer 1 project known for its privacy features, has reemerged with a $160 million investment fund in partnership with prominent venture capital firms like Dragonfly Capital and Pantera Capital. The fund aims to nurture early-stage projects on Oasis, including DeFi, NFTs, and metaverse applications, following a trend among layer 1 protocols to invest in ecosystem growth amidst competition with Ethereum alternatives.

Oasis Network Revives with $160 Million Investment Fund, Targeting Privacy-Focused Blockchain Development

In a significant development for the layer 1 blockchain landscape, the Oasis Foundation has announced the establishment of a $160 million investment fund, signaling the revitalization of its privacy-centric project.

The fund, a collaboration with prominent venture capital firms such as Dragonfly Capital Partners, Draper Dragon Fund, Electric Capital, FBG, Jump Capital, Kenetic Capital, NGC Ventures, and Pantera Capital, aims to nurture early-stage projects building on the Oasis ecosystem.

"The fund will support projects across a wide spectrum of areas, including DeFi [decentralized finance], NFTs [non-fungible tokens], metaverse, data tokenization, data DAO [decentralized autonomous organization], and data governance," the press release stated.

Oasis Labs founder Dawn Song expressed optimism about the fund's potential to stimulate the ecosystem's growth and collaboration. "The hope is that everyone works together to fuel the growth of the ecosystem," she remarked in an interview with CoinDesk.

The Oasis fund echoes a similar initiative launched by Avalanche last month through its Blizzard program, where a group of VC investors pledged $200 million to support early-stage projects. This trend among layer 1 blockchain platforms reflects their commitment to bootstrapping projects and attracting traffic in the increasingly competitive market for Ethereum base layer alternatives.

Despite its early promise, Oasis has faced challenges in recent years. Following a $45 million fundraising round in 2018, the project experienced a period of dormancy, with only occasional partnership announcements.

However, Song indicated that the chain is now poised to enter the limelight. Oasis hosts "ParaTimes," sidechains with distinct execution environments that share a common consensus layer. "Emerald," an upcoming ParaTime, will enable Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) projects to effortlessly migrate to the Oasis chain.

Song revealed that Emerald's launch is "imminent," with several renowned DeFi projects already developing implementations on the network. Additionally, the Emerald launch may include a ROSE token liquidity mining program.

"We have a DEX [decentralized exchange], lending platforms, and NFT projects, including unique types of NFTs. There are many exciting partnerships in the pipeline," Song enthused.

The launch of the investment fund and the forthcoming Emerald ParaTime represent significant milestones in Oasis's journey. The platform's privacy-focused approach and the influx of venture capital support position it to become a formidable player in the rapidly evolving blockchain landscape.
