Nillion network has just raised $25 million to expand its decentralized privacy platform
Oct 31, 2024 at 12:06 am
This new funding round, held on Oct. 30 and led by Hack VC, adds to Nillion’s total funding, now over $50 million.

Web3 privacy startup Nillion has raised $25 million in fresh funding to expand its decentralized network for processing private data.
The new funding round, held on Oct. 30, was led by Hack VC and brought Nillion’s total funding to more than $50 million. This marks the second fundraising round for the startup in 2023, following a previous funding round in February.
Institutions participating in the latest funding round included Distributed Global and Hashkey, along with well-known figures such as Ansem, Arthur Hayes, and Meltem Demirors. Additionally, leaders from Worldcoin, Injective, and Sei participated to support Nillion's mission.
According to the announcement, Nillion's Blind Compute (NBC) is creating the first truly private data ecosystem, which is said to be the next whitespace in crypto, capable of bringing in new users and revenue streams. The aim is to decentralize trust and unlock crypto’s full potential by making privacy a default option.
Building the First “Blind Computer” for Private Data
As a decentralized compute network powered by Cosmos, Nillion hosts the first “Blind Compute” (NBC) to process private data off-chain without exposure. This technology enables NBC clients to securely store and compute their data for various use cases.
With over 40 developers working on Nillion’s projects, they hail from Near, Aptos, Arbitrum, Mantle, IO.net, and Ritual. These developers are building applications in AI, private DeFi, healthcare, and data marketplaces.

In a statement shared with Cointelegraph, Nillion highlighted that its clients require secure data storage and computation for applications such as quantum-secure messaging and encrypted trading.
Nillion co-founder Lukas Bruell further elaborated on this concept in a video posted on Oct. 10, stating:
“When you run a computation, the data is fully exposed. So what Nillion does is create a private cloud environment where you can actually run these computations without anyone seeing the data.”
Moreover, Nillion CEO Alex Page noted in December 2022 that the startup's main technology, Nil Message Compute, can operate without blockchain. This privacy-first approach allows nodes to process encrypted data without revealing it. Another tool developed by Nillion, the Nada AI developer toolkit, aims to simplify the process of building private applications.

Major Milestones and New Partnerships for NillionWeb3 privacy startup graduates from Cohort 0 of Beacon’s Web3 accelerator program. A new integration with the Aptos network adds another layer to their growing ecosystem.
Founded three years ago, Nillion began its journey to secure high-value data using decentralized tech and privacy-enhancing tools such as secure multi-party computation (MPC) and homomorphic encryption.
Earlier this year, in January, Nillion graduated from Cohort 0 of Beacon's Web3 accelerator program alongside 12 other companies. In August 2024, they also connected with the Aptos network, adding another layer to their growing ecosystem.

With this new funding, Nillion is set to strengthen its position in the world of decentralized privacy solutions, providing a way for users to keep their data safe in an increasingly digital world.
