NFT Sector Faces Uncertain Path as 2024 Bull Run Bypasses It

NFT Sector Faces Uncertain Path as 2024 Bull Run Bypasses It

A recent analysis by nftevening.com has painted a concerning picture of the non-fungible token (NFT) market, revealing that 96% of NFTs are now considered “dead.” The report examined over 5,000 NFT collections and approximately 5 million transactions to assess the current state of the market.

The analysis revealed that a staggering number of NFTs, around 96%, exhibited zero trading volume, minimal 7-day sales, and were largely absent from social media platforms like X. This lack of activity essentially rendered these NFTs “dead” in the eyes of the market.

Furthermore, the report highlighted the financial struggles faced by NFT investors, with more than 43% of holders reporting losses on their investments. On average, these investors experienced a 44.5% decrease in the value of their NFT holdings.

Adding to the concerning trends, the lifespan of an NFT now averages just 1.14 years, significantly shorter than that of traditional crypto asset projects. This brevity in lifespan further contributes to the instability of the NFT market.

According to previous reports by Bitcoin.com News, NFT sales have declined by 41.36% compared to July, and July's digital collectible sales were also down 36.6% from June.

The analysis by nftevening.com also showed a stark contrast in the profitability of different NFT collections. Some collections, like Azuki, thrived due to strong community engagement and marketing efforts, while others, like Pudgy Penguins, saw their value plummet by 97%, leaving holders in a dire financial situation.

As the year progresses, it remains to be seen whether NFTs have truly reached their lowest point. While other sectors within the crypto and blockchain space have experienced growth during the 2024 bull run, NFTs have unfortunately trended in the opposite direction, exhibiting a steady decline since the year's onset. According to Cryptoslam.io metrics, however, NFT sales have still settled at a total value of $66.128 billion in sales.
