Today, May 7, Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade is set to go live. The upgrade will be applied at block height 13,000,000, and it brings several changes to the blockchain.

Pectra is a collection of four Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) that are designed to improve the efficiency, security, and usability of the Ethereum blockchain. The EIPs included in Pectra are:

EIP-7615: Minimal Version Pectra

EIP-6883: PERFORM: Efficient Atomic Cross-Chain Value Transfer

EIP-8006: Standardise Chain ID

EIP-4844: Batch Scanning

Pectra is the fifth planned upgrade for Ethereum in 2024. It follows earlier upgrades such as Bellatrix, which enabled the merge to proof-of-stake, and the Shanghai upgrade, which enabled withdrawals of staked ETH.

Pectra is expected to increase the throughput of the Ethereum blockchain and reduce gas fees for users. It will also make it easier for developers to build new dapps and protocols on Ethereum.
