Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bat first against Peshawar Zalmi

The 25th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 saw Multan Sultans win the toss and opt to bat first against Peshawar Zalmi at Multan Cricket Stadium on Monday.

The two sides met for the second time this season, with their first encounter in Match 9 witnessing a massive 120-run victory for Peshawar Zalmi.

Despite Multan’s historical dominance over Peshawar with 11 wins in 16 encounters, this season has painted a different picture for both sides.

The Sultans find themselves languishing at the bottom of the table with one win from eight matches and a concerning net run-rate of -2.597, while Zalmi occupy fifth position with three victories from seven games and a net run rate of -0.507.

This clash also marks the penultimate game of the league stage for both sides.

While the Sultans are already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, Peshawar still maintain slim hopes of reaching the playoffs.

To improve their chances, Zalmi must win all three of their remaining matches and hope that other results go in their favour.

Squads

Multan Sultans: Mohammad Rizwan, Usama Mir and Michael Bracewell (all platinum), David Willey, Iftikhar Ahmed and Usman Khan (all diamond), Chris Jordan, Kamran Ghulam and Mohammad Hasnain (all gold), Faisal Akram, Akif Javed, Gudakesh Motie, Josh Little and Tayyab Tahir (all silver), Shahid Aziz and Ubaid Shah (both emerging), Muhammad Amir Barki, Ashton Turner and Yasir Khan (all supplementary).

Peshawar Zalmi: Babar Azam (c), Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore (all platinum), Mohammad Haris, George Linde and Mohammad Ali (both diamond), Hussain Talat, Nahid Rana and Abdul Samad (all gold), Arif Yaqoob, Mehran Mumtaz, Sufiyan Muqeem and Najibullah Zadran (all silver), Ali Raza and Maaz Sadaqat (both emerging), Mitchell Owen, Ahmed Daniyal, Alzarri Joseph and Ihsanullah (all supplementary).
