MicroStrategy, the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, has revealed MicroStrategy Orange, a decentralized identity solution leveraging Ordinal-based inscriptions on the Bitcoin network. Open-source and sidechain-independent, Orange processes up to 10,000 decentralized identifiers in a single Bitcoin transaction, enabling pseudonymity and digital identity verification. MicroStrategy Unveils Decentralized Identity Solution on Bitcoin Network

Washington, D.C., May 1, 2023 - MicroStrategy Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), a leading business intelligence and software company, has announced the launch of MicroStrategy Orange, a decentralized identity solution built on the Bitcoin network. The solution leverages Ordinals, an emerging technology that enables the inscription of data onto individual Satoshis, the smallest denomination of Bitcoin (BTC).

MicroStrategy Orange, an open-source platform, aims to provide trustless, tamper-proof, and long-lived decentralized identities (DIDs) by utilizing the public Bitcoin blockchain as its sole data source. Unlike traditional identity verification systems, DIDs allow individuals and organizations to store and retrieve their identities and credentials pseudonymously, mitigating privacy concerns associated with linking real-world identities to Bitcoin addresses and transactions.

"MicroStrategy Orange is a groundbreaking solution that harnesses the power of the Bitcoin blockchain to create a robust and secure decentralized identity ecosystem," said Michael Saylor, Executive Chairman of MicroStrategy. "This platform empowers individuals and organizations to control their digital identities, fostering trust and transparency in a world increasingly reliant on digital interactions."

MicroStrategy Orange comprises three core components:

  • Orange Service: Allows users to issue DIDs to their personnel and deploy applications.
  • Orange SDK: Provides customization tools for integrating specific services on mobile and desktop devices.
  • Orange Applications: Pre-built applications that leverage Orange's capabilities, such as "Orange For Outlook," which enables users to verify the true identity of email senders through digital signatures.

The onboarding process for MicroStrategy Orange involves accepting an invitation email signed by MicroStrategy's DID. Upon acceptance, users generate a unique DID and a public and private key pair. The DID and public key are then inscribed onto the Bitcoin network, allowing users to begin sending invitations to their personnel to create their own digital identities.

MicroStrategy anticipates that Orange applications will extend to various platforms and industries, including messaging platforms, social media networks, and e-commerce, enterprise, and fintech applications.

The launch of MicroStrategy Orange comes amidst the company's recent financial performance, with the announcement of a $53.1 million net loss for the first quarter of 2023 on April 30. However, this reporting under traditional accounting methods does not account for the substantial increase in the market value of MicroStrategy's 214,400 BTC holdings, which were valued at $15.2 billion at the time.

MicroStrategy's commitment to Bitcoin remains unwavering, as evidenced by its continued belief in the long-term potential of the digital asset and the transformative impact of decentralized technologies like MicroStrategy Orange.
