Microstrategy Buys the Dip, Adding 13,390 BTC to Its Treasury for $1.34B

MicroStrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR) has acquired 13,390 Bitcoin (BTC) at an average price of

99,856, bringing its total Bitcoin treasury holdings to 568,840 BTC, according to a recent SEC filing.

This purchase, made between May 5 and May 11, marks a significant move by the software company, known for its unwavering commitment to Bitcoin. The company's Bitcoin treasury strategy has been a subject of discussion among investors, and this acquisition, amounting to approximately $1.34 billion, further solidifies its stance as a leading institutional Bitcoin holder.

The timing of the purchase aligns with a period of bullish market sentiment, as Bitcoin's price briefly dipped below the $100,000 mark on May 8.

Bitcoin price movements often trigger large waves of liquidations in the derivatives market, and this recent price action saw over $700 million in liquidations across both longs and shorts.

According to data from Glassnode, the majority of liquidations were driven by perpetual futures traders who went short on Bitcoin.

Despite the liquidations, institutional investors appear to be in no rush to exit their positions and continue to show a preference for BTC over equities.

Signals from macroeconomic factors, such as proposed U.S. trade policies, also suggest a continuation of the bull market, which could further encourage institutional inflows into Bitcoin.

Strategy's aggressive strategy to acquire Bitcoin through debt and equity sales in a low-interest-rate environment has enabled it to funnel funds from institutional investors into BTC.

This approach has yielded a 15.5% Bitcoin yield for 2025, surpassing the company's target and highlighting the success of its strategy.

According to analysts at CCIV, Strategy's rapid pace of Bitcoin acquisitions is outpacing the rate at which miners are supplying new coins, contributing to Bitcoin's deflationary dynamics.

With over 13,000 institutions holding Strategy stock, the company's actions could have a significant impact on Bitcoin's market dynamics, potentially driving prices higher.

This purchase follows a pattern of consistent accumulation, with Strategy previously acquiring 15,355 BTC for $1.42 billion in April, bringing its year-to-date Bitcoin yield to 13.7% before this latest buy.
