MicroStrategy Becomes Bitcoin Behemoth, Surpassing Nations' Crypto Holdings
May 11, 2024 at 02:06 pm
US-based software company MicroStrategy now holds the distinction of being the world's largest corporate bitcoin owner, surpassing even individual countries in its cryptocurrency holdings. With the recent acquisition of 25,250 bitcoins, MicroStrategy's total bitcoin possession stands at 214,400 BTC, amassing over 1% of all bitcoins in circulation. This significant investment positions the company as a dominant player in the bitcoin market, with a hoard that exceeds the United States' holdings.

MicroStrategy Emerges as Bitcoin Behemoth, Surpassing Nations in Cryptocurrency Holdings
In a groundbreaking move that has redefined corporate crypto ownership, the American software company MicroStrategy has amassed a Bitcoin fortune exceeding that of any single country. With the recent acquisition of 25,250 Bitcoins, MicroStrategy's total Bitcoin holdings have soared to 214,400 BTC – an astonishing figure that represents over 1% of all Bitcoins currently in circulation.
This staggering accumulation places MicroStrategy far ahead of other corporate Bitcoin holders. The next largest public company in terms of Bitcoin ownership, mining firm Marathon Digital Holdings, holds a mere fraction of MicroStrategy's massive stash.
Remarkably, MicroStrategy's Bitcoin portfolio now dwarfs that of the United States government, which possesses 207,189 BTC valued at $13.5 billion, according to Bitcoin Treasuries.
"Our exceptional Bitcoin strategy and proven track record as an operating company have enabled us to acquire and hold 214,400 Bitcoins at an average purchase price of $35,180 per coin," stated MicroStrategy's CEO, Phong Le.
With Bitcoin currently trading at around $64,000, MicroStrategy's crypto investment has generated a staggering profit of over $6 billion. Despite this tantalizing potential for financial gain, the company has shown no inclination to sell its digital assets.
MicroStrategy's enigmatic founder, Michael Saylor, has repeatedly expressed his unwavering commitment to holding onto Bitcoin, even in the face of market fluctuations. "When MicroStrategy adopted a Bitcoin Strategy, it anticipated volatility and structured its balance sheet so that it could continue to #HODL through adversity," Saylor wrote during a previous crypto market downturn in 2022.
Recently, with Bitcoin once again approaching record highs, Saylor reaffirmed his belief in the digital currency, tweeting: "Bet on the winner #Bitcoin."
The meteoric rise of Bitcoin in recent months has been fueled by two pivotal events. The first was the approval of the first-ever spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) for Bitcoin by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in January. This move brought billions of dollars of institutional investment into the Bitcoin market for the first time.
The second event was the "halving," which occurs approximately every four years and reduces the rewards for mining Bitcoin by half. This decrease in supply, coupled with the surge in demand, propelled Bitcoin to a new all-time high of over $73,000 in March.
MicroStrategy's unprecedented Bitcoin holdings represent a bold and visionary investment that has positioned the company as a global leader in the crypto space. Its unwavering belief in Bitcoin's long-term potential has set a precedent for other corporations considering diversifying their portfolios with digital assets.
