Microsoft-Backed Space and Time Is Now Live – And It Could Change Web3 Forever
May 09, 2025 at 02:07 am
A bold step forward in blockchain infrastructure has arrived with the launch of Space and Time's public mainnet, opening the doors to smarter
A new era in blockchain technology has dawned with the launch of Space and Time's public mainnet, bringing the promise of smarter, more sophisticated crypto applications powered by verifiable data one step closer.
Developed by MakeInfinite Labs and backed by tech giant Microsoft, the project is merging the realms of smart contracts and decentralized data in a novel way.
While blockchain apps have traditionally faced difficulties accessing reliable offchain and cross-chain data without sacrificing security or decentralization, Space and Time is introducing a decentralized data layer secured through zero-knowledge (ZK) cryptography.
At the heart of this technology lies Proof of SQL, an innovation that enables smart contracts to perform trustless database queries on blockchain history and external data—a capability previously thought impossible.
The protocol indexes and stores blockchain data, including from Ethereum, on a network of validators. This allows developers to query historical data with cryptographic proof, enabling them to feed valuable insights directly into smart contracts without any intermediaries like centralized oracles or middleware.
"Most smart contracts today operate in a data vacuum," noted one of the project's founders. "Our network transforms that vacuum into a verifiable database engine, unlocking applications we've only theorized about until now."
Space and Time's architecture has the potential to support a diverse range of applications, from dynamic DeFi instruments and real-world asset tokenization to onchain AI agents. Developers can now build logic that reacts to data changes in a completely decentralized manner, free from the risk of manipulation or data tampering.
MakeInfinite Labs, the team behind the protocol, has also developed valuable tools like Blitzar—a ZK chain scaling system—and engaged in collaborations with major institutions to advance critical infrastructure.
Having secured funding from Microsoft's venture arm and other top-tier investors, the firm is focused on establishing the building blocks for the next generation of Web3 applications.
The Space and Time mainnet is now open for participation from developers, data providers, and node operators who wish to contribute to this groundbreaking technology.
As the crypto industry continues its shift towards more utility-driven use cases, this launch marks a timely and ambitious step towards a future where blockchain is more deeply integrated with the vast domain of data.
