Metis Integrates Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) as the Network’s Canonical Cross-Chain Infrastructure
Aug 11, 2024 at 07:47 pm
Metis is a permissionless Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain that focuses on scalability and decentralization without sacrificing security.

Metis, a permissionless Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, has announced the integration of Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) on its mainnet. This marks a significant step towards enabling seamless cross-chain communication and asset transfer between Metis and other Layer 1 and Layer 2 blockchains.
In its announcement, Metis highlighted the initial integration of CCIP as a bridge between Metis and the Ethereum Layer 1 blockchain. However, the network’s developers are planning to rapidly expand these connections to other blockchains in the near future. Through CCIP, Metis users will be able to bridge their assets and send messages securely to and from Ethereum.
This integration follows a series of similar announcements throughout the past month, which saw Polkadot’s Astar Network, tokenization platform Zoniqx, decentralized exchange Morphex and Web3 gaming studio DRIFT Labs also revealing their use of the industry-leading bridging solution.
Metis selected Chainlink due to its proven Level-5 cross-chain security, which has been used to anchor over $12 trillion in transaction volume to date. Additionally, other Chainlink defense-in-depth features, like the Risk Management Network, will enable Metis to build solutions that can attract more liquidity and allow users to tokenize their assets.
“With Chainlink CCIP now live as Metis’ canonical cross-chain infrastructure, developers can unlock an array of transformative cross-chain use cases,” said Kevin Liu, Metis Co-Founder.
“As the latest Layer 2 to integrate CCIP, Metis is set to become a hub for cross-chain activity, especially within DeFi. With cross-chain applications underpinned by the industry-standard CCIP, liquidity is bound to flow into the Metis ecosystem and help scale DeFi.”
In a separate post, the Metis team further described CCIP as a universal translator for blockchain.
“In essence, CCIP unlocks doors to innovation across every sector in blockchain and just about every single use case you can imagine,” said the Metis team.
“It’s not just an upgrade for our ecosystem; it’s a whole new playing field for builders to incorporate multi-chain capabilities into their dApps. From DeFi and DAOs to NFTs, gaming, and metaverse applications, builders can now integrate CCIP to enable seamless communication and interaction across any blockchain.”
Meanwhile, Chainlink Labs expressed its enthusiasm for the partnership, which is expected to introduce new use cases and benefits to the Metis ecosystem.
“As a Layer 2 focused on scalability, cross-chain interoperability is crucial for Metis to unlock the full potential of its network,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer, Chainlink Labs.
“CCIP will unlock a whole host of cross-chain use cases for the Metis ecosystem, transforming DeFi, DAOs, and more. We’re excited to see Chainlink CCIP live on Metis as its canonical cross-chain infrastructure.”
Chainlink CCIP has rapidly become one of Chainlink’s biggest features, now available on dozens of blockchains and in hundreds of applications, highlighting the vast market need for interoperability solutions. As a result, the days of blockchain tribalism are being gradually phased out, with more users now able to tap into multiple blockchains for maximum gains.
Chainlink’s native token, LINK, currently trades at $10.6, up 3% in the past 24 hours, with a market capitalization of $6.43 billion.
