Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet has added another 1,241 bitcoin (BTC) to its treasury.
The firm disclosed the latest purchase on Monday, adding that it spent 18.4 billion yen (or $126 million at current exchange rates) on the coins.
The acquisition brings Metaplanet’s total holdings to 6,796 BTC, which is valued at over $706 million at current market prices. This pushes the firm’s bitcoin stash above El Salvador’s treasury, which is currently holding 6,174 BTC, according to the Central American nation’s Bitcoin Office.
The latest purchase was made at an average price of just over $102,119 per bitcoin, rendering it the firm’s most aggressive buy yet since launching its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in April 2024.
Earlier this year, Metaplanet announced plans to hit 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025. Its treasury strategy is increasingly mirroring the high-conviction accumulation playbook pioneered by microstrategy (NASDAQ:MSTR)which is now holding over 555,000 BTC globally.
As of Monday, Metaplanet is still the largest publicly traded bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 11th in the world.
