Marien Marcel Teases the Visual World of Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke's New Album, "Tall Tales"
May 21, 2025 at 08:06 pm
Fans of Mark Pritchard, Thom Yorke, and visual artist Jonathan Zawada recently discovered a mysterious Instagram account, teasing the visual world of their new album
Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke, two musical luminaries known for their experimental and boundary-pushing sonic explorations, have joined forces with renowned visual artist Jonathan Zawada for a unique project that spans music, art, film, and an engaging online narrative. The project, titled "Tall Tales," is a multifaceted work that builds upon the duo's previous collaborations, dating back to Yorke's 2014 single "Agora."
Over the past few months, fans of Pritchard, Yorke, and Zawada have been engrossed in deciphering the clues and following the breadcrumbs that led to the project's unveiling. It all began with a mysterious Instagram account, Marien Marcel, which teased the visual world of "Tall Tales" through sketches and processes of melting down fake eBay art to forge bronze coins.
The project's website, a constantly evolving landscape of new material, sketches, and film teasers, served as the central hub for this collective exploration. The unveiling of the project’s third element, a short film titled “Tall Tales: The Coins (Forge, Reforge, Forgery),” marks the culmination of this engaging journey.
This film, documenting the crafting of the coins, follows the cinematic premiere of "Tall Tales" on May 8th in London, an event that brought together fans and members of the project team for the first time.
Four hundred hand-finished, individually numbered coins have been hidden worldwide by accomplices, including author Benjamin Myers and various record stores. These coins serve as tangible tokens of the project, each hinting at the deeper meanings within the album.
Lucky finders are encouraged to register their discovery on the project's website, where 71 coins have already been located in diverse places like cemeteries, historic landmarks, and a copy of Dante's Inferno in a university library.
"Tall Tales," the new album from Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke, is available now in various formats. Fans can purchase a standard black vinyl 2LP gatefold edition or a limited special black vinyl 2LP edition that includes a 36-page booklet featuring project images and lyrics, all designed by Jonathan Zawada. Both a standard CD edition and a limited special CD accompanied by the same 36-page booklet are also available.output: Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke, two musical luminaries known for their experimental and boundary-pushing sonic explorations, have joined forces with renowned visual artist Jonathan Zawada for a unique project that spans music, art, film, and an engaging online narrative.
