Mantra Undergoes Restructure Following OM Token Collapse: A New Chapter for Real-World Assets?

Jan 15, 2026 at 01:49 am

Mantra announces a significant operational restructure and staff reduction after a challenging year, aiming for capital efficiency and focus on core RWA projects.

Mantra Undergoes Restructure Following OM Token Collapse: A New Chapter for Real-World Assets?

Mantra Navigates Restructuring Amidst OM Token Turbulence

In a move signaling a significant shift in its operational strategy, blockchain project Mantra has announced a company-wide restructuring, including staff reductions. This decision comes after what CEO John Patrick Mullin described as "the most difficult year in the company's history," largely attributed to the dramatic collapse of its native OM token and prevailing market pressures.

The OM Token Crash and Its Aftermath

The primary catalyst for this restructuring was the precipitous fall of the OM token in April 2025. The token plummeted from a high of $8.99 in February 2025 to a mere $0.59 by April 15, marking a loss of nearly 99% of its value. This crash had a direct and severe impact on Mantra's Total Value Locked (TVL), which saw a drastic decline from $4.26 million to below $590,000 within a fortnight, now hovering under $865,000. While the token has experienced a recent surge in trading activity, its current market price remains significantly depressed.

Mantra's leadership pointed to aggressive leverage policies on centralized exchanges as the culprit behind the token's collapse, highlighting the potential for such actions to destabilize markets. In response, Mantra has implemented new measures, including enhanced transparency, distributed validator control, a real-time token dashboard, and the burning of 150 million staked OM tokens to reduce supply and shore up community trust.

A Leaner, More Focused Future

The restructuring is designed to foster a more capital-efficient and sustainable operational model. Mullin emphasized that the layoffs, impacting departments like business development, marketing, and HR, are not merely cost-cutting measures but a strategic pivot towards prioritizing core execution for 2026. The company intends to sharpen its focus on its flagship initiatives, namely the Mantra Layer-1 chain, mantraUSD, and Mantra Finance.

"I take full accountability for these decisions and for the path that led us here," Mullin stated in an X post, expressing his deep regret for those affected by the changes. He acknowledged the immense contributions of departing employees and stressed the importance of aligning operations with current market realities.

Looking Ahead: Resilience and Real-World Assets

Despite the recent turbulence, Mantra remains committed to its vision of being a regulatory-compliant Layer 1 blockchain for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization. The recent launch of mantraUSD, a stablecoin backed by U.S. Treasury bills, underscores this dedication, aiming to serve as the foundational currency for accessing RWA products within the Mantra ecosystem. The company is also reminding users to migrate their ERC-20 OM tokens to the native MANTRA Chain token before the January 15, 2026 deadline.

While the road ahead may present challenges, Mantra's strategic pivot towards greater efficiency and a streamlined focus on its core RWA offerings suggests a determined effort to rebuild and regain momentum. It's a tough business, but here's hoping Mantra can navigate these choppy waters and emerge stronger!
