Litecoin (LTC) Gambling Is on the Rise: Here's Why

Sep 03, 2024 at 01:17 am

A lot of crypto-related headlines tend to be dominated by stories about price movements and speculative trading, in general. This makes it easy sometimes to overlook the other things that can be done with cryptocurrency and tokens that are thriving outside of the investment space.

Litecoin (LTC) Gambling Is on the Rise: Here's Why

Cryptocurrency can be used for a variety of purposes beyond speculative trading, including making payments, gambling, and even voting. A recent report by CoinGate on crypto payments processed in Q2 2024 highlights the diverse use cases of tokens.

According to the report, USDT was the most widely used token for crypto payments, accounting for 34.2% of transactions. This was followed by Bitcoin (21.5%) and Litecoin (14.3%). The platform saw an overall increase in the quarterly average of transactions processed, with 404,674 orders for Q2.

Interestingly, Litecoin transactions surged by 3.43% compared to Q2 2023 and 67% year-over-year. This growth is particularly notable given Litecoin's status as an "industry underdog" for several years.

The combination of Litecoin's fast speeds and low fees makes it attractive for various use cases, including gambling. Crypto betting sites often prioritize Litecoin due to its convenience for bettors.

"Anyone betting with crypto can keep more of their winnings and receive them much faster," the report noted.

Commenting on Litecoin's increasing popularity for payments, Alan Austin, Managing Director of the Litecoin Foundation, stated, "Combine this with Litecoin’s ease of use, security, speed, low fees, and proven reliability, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better payment solution on the planet."

If Litecoin continues on this trajectory, it could become a dominant token in the payments space.

The report also highlights the differences between cryptos used for payments versus investing. For example, Bitcoin and Ethereum are typically the top two tokens by market cap, while Litecoin is significantly less popular.

However, a token's profitability does not necessarily indicate its suitability for convenient transfers, as evident in this case.

Stablecoins, on the other hand, appear to be favored for payments, with USDT remaining the most widely used token overall and for two out of three blockchains. This is despite the scandals and accusations of manipulation that Tether has faced in the past.

Ultimately, the specific tokens used for payments vary depending on the platform, industry, and user preferences. However, the report provides valuable insights into the diverse applications of cryptocurrency beyond trading.
