Kuaidi Dache CEO Blasts EOS, Calling It 'Fraudulent Hype'

May 15, 2024 at 12:05 am

Kuaidi Dache founder Weixing Chen has expressed concerns about crypto assets like EOS, citing misleading claims about scalability. Chen, known for his anti-EOS stance, criticizes the lack of a live product and the hype surrounding EOS, which raised $4 billion without one. Despite its large market valuation, EOS's mainnet launch in June 2018 with 21 block producers left Chen skeptical.

Kuaidi Dache CEO Slams EOS, Calling Out 'Fraudulent Propaganda'

Beijing, China - Weixing Chen, the founder and CEO of Kuaidi Dache, a Chinese ride-hailing app, has raised concerns about the scalability-focused cryptocurrency EOS in a statement posted on Weibo. Chen, a well-known figure in China's venture capital space and an outspoken critic of EOS, questioned the validity of claims made about the platform's performance.

"EOS is a prime example," Chen wrote. "I've always maintained that there's nothing wrong with exploring new technologies. The problem lies in the deceptive claims, such as 'million TPS' and 'next-generation operating system.'"

Chen's statement aligns with reports from CnLedger, a reputable Chinese cryptocurrency news source, which confirmed the authenticity of his Weibo account.

EOS, currently valued at $5.8 billion, holds the distinction of being the largest initial coin offering (ICO) in cryptocurrency history. Remarkably, it raised a staggering $4 billion in May 2018 despite not having a live product at the time.

The EOS blockchain protocol mainnet was launched in June 2018 with 21 so-called "block producers." These individuals are tasked with creating blocks on the EOS network, which contain transaction and smart contract data.

Chen's skepticism about EOS stems from his concerns about its scalability claims. TPS (transactions per second) is a crucial metric for blockchain platforms, as it indicates how many transactions they can process within a given timeframe. EOS claims to be capable of handling millions of TPS, far exceeding the capabilities of most existing blockchain systems.

However, Chen and other critics argue that these claims are exaggerated and lack empirical evidence. They point to the fact that EOS has yet to demonstrate its scalability in real-world applications.

Chen's statement has sparked a heated debate within the cryptocurrency community, with EOS supporters defending the platform's potential and detractors raising concerns about its exaggerated claims. The controversy underscores the ongoing challenges faced by the cryptocurrency industry as it grapples with issues of scalability, transparency, and regulation.
