The British Royal Mint is honouring music legend John Lennon with a new commemorative coin to celebrate his life and legacy.
The coin will be released in 2025 to mark what would have been Lennon's 85th birthday. It is the latest in a series of Music Legends coins from the Royal Mint, which has previously celebrated artists such as Queen and David Bowie.
The coin is designed by expert coin designer Henry Gray and features a portrait of Lennon on the roof of his New York City penthouse. The image is based on a photograph by music photographer Bob Gruen.
Lennon's name appears on the left of the portrait and the word "Imagine" is written on the right, a tribute to his iconic single and album of the same name.
"Argues as one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time, John Lennon’s achievements as an artist, an activist and an advocate for peace will now be forever on a coin," said Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coin at the Royal Mint.
"Still admired by millions of people and generations around the world, we hope this coin and its design will be treasured for many years to come."
The Lennon coin will be available to buy from Monday at 9 a.м. GMT on the Royal Mint website. It will be sold in a range of finishes, including Brilliant Uncirculated, and two editions of the coin will be available in gold.
