Introducing the Sonic Gateway: A Trustless Bridge Between Ethereum and Sonic

Sep 18, 2024 at 10:17 pm

Sonic Labs has taken another historic leap by introducing the Sonic Gateway, a decentralized and trustless bridge between Ethereum and its own network, Sonic.

Sonic Gateway: A Secure and Trustless Bridge Between Ethereum and Sonic Labs

Sonic Labs, the company behind the Sonic blockchain, has announced the launch of Sonic Gateway, a decentralized bridge that enables trustless ERC-20 token transfers between Ethereum and Sonic. This new functionality addresses a critical concern in the blockchain realm: custody risks during cross-chain transfers.

Announcing the Sonic Gateway ?

#Sonic Gateway is a decentralized bridge between Ethereum and Sonic, eliminating all third-party and centralization risks.

With its fail-safe mechanism, the Gateway protects your assets under all circumstances.

Enhanced Security and Full Asset Control with Sonic Gateway

The Sonic Gateway eliminates the need for users to lose control of their funds during transfers. The bridge leverages Sonic’s validator network to facilitate secure ERC-20 token transfers, ensuring that users maintain complete authority over their assets throughout the transaction.

Unlike existing solutions that involve a third party or middleman to handle assets during transfers, Sonic Gateway offers a trustless environment, significantly reducing the potential for hacking or mismanagement.

While Sonic Gateway appears slower than comparable layer-2 solutions, with transfers from Ethereum to Sonic taking up to 10 minutes and transfers from Sonic back to Ethereum taking up to an hour, it features a fail-safe method.

If the gateway fails for any reason and remains inactive for 14 days, users can still access their Ethereum holdings, providing an additional layer of security for those concerned about losing access to their funds.

Sonic Gateway has a distinct advantage over other bridges in that it avoids the risks associated with multi-signature bridge protection, which is a pressing security concern for many Ethereum users.

Despite its popularity, multi-signature protection has flaws that can leave user assets vulnerable to hacking. The Sonic Gateway, however, does not employ this mechanism, resulting in faster and more secure bridges.

Unlike layer-2 solutions, which require a 7-day challenge period before finality, Sonic offers faster transaction times without compromising on security.

Key Milestones Achieved by Sonic Labs

Sonic Labs has already achieved several key milestones in blockchain technology; hence, the introduction of the Sonic Gateway is quite timely.

As reported by CNF, Sonic has attained true transaction finality within 720 milliseconds, eliminating the need for additional block confirmations.

This innovation enables Sonic transactions to settle almost immediately, which is a substantial advantage for both developers and users.

Moreover, Sonic’s unique pricing structure encourages developers by paying them 90% of the gas fees, while users enjoy fee-free transactions. This approach is likely to attract a large developer community, fostering greater innovation within the Sonic ecosystem.

In addition to the above, as we previously reported, Sonic Labs has also integrated Chainlink Data Feeds and the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) into its technology stack.

This integration provides developers with advanced capabilities for creating secure, on-chain applications that can interface with multiple blockchains.

Chainlink’s decentralized oracle network and CCIP ensure that the data utilized in Sonic Labs’ ecosystem is both reliable and secure. These technologies are essential for applications that require precise data and seamless cross-chain functionality, making Sonic Labs a more robust and attractive platform for both developers and users.

At press time, Sonic’s native token, FTM, is trading at $0.5689, up by 2.64% over the last 24 hours. This bullish trend positions FTM among the day’s top gainers.
