Two Institutions Are Dumping ETH, Is it Time To Sell ETH For Other Altcoins?
Oct 10, 2024 at 05:15 pm
Lately, the crypto market has been rattled by reports that two prominent institutions have sold substantial amounts of Ethereum (ETH) to exchanges, potentially signaling a downturn for the second-largest cryptocurrency. As uncertainty looms over ETH's price trajectory, attention has started to shift toward other altcoins like broker-backed crypto prop firm FXGuys ($FXG) and Sui (SUI). Let's see why!

Two institutions sold large amounts of Ethereum (ETH) to cryptocurrency exchanges on September 28, sparking concerns about a potential sell-off. According to Lookonchain, Cumberland and ParaFi Capital sent a combined total of over $45 million worth of ETH to Coinbase.
This movement of ETH tokens has drawn parallels to a similar event in early August, when Jump Trading sold approximately $500 million worth of ETH, triggering a significant price correction. With the recent sell-off mirroring past institutional selling patterns, many are speculating about a potential downturn for ETH.
However, while the market is closely observing the sell-offs and their impact on ETH’s price trajectory, attention has shifted toward other altcoins, such as broker-backed crypto prop firm FXGuys ($FXG) and Sui (SUI), in light of their recent performance and upcoming developments.
FTX Token Might Be Next In Line For Institutions
Institutions have played a crucial role in driving the crypto market throughout 2024, with their large-scale investments and trading activity influencing the price movements of major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH). However, recent reports indicate that institutions may be shifting their focus away from blue-chip cryptos.
On-chain data from Lookonchain reveals that two prominent institutions, Cumberland and ParaFi Capital, sold a substantial amount of ETH tokens to Coinbase on September 28. Based on the current exchange rates, Cumberland sold approximately $27.5 million worth of ETH, while ParaFi Capital sold around $17.9 million. Together, these two institutions sold over $45 million in ETH tokens.
This large-scale selling activity has sparked speculation among the crypto community about a potential sell-off. In particular, the sell-offs are occurring at a time when ETH has experienced a significant price increase in the past few weeks. From trading at around $2,258 on September 15, the tokens have risen in value by over 20%, reaching a price of $2,719 on September 28.
However, following the massive sell-offs on September 28, the tokens’ price dropped to $2,635. Now, the market is watching closely to see if there will be further negative effects on ETH’s price performance.
Earlier this year, another institutional sell-off event occurred on August 9, when Jump Trading sold approximately $500 million worth of ETH, leading to a significant price correction. Specifically, ETH tokens dropped in value by around 12% following the Jump Trading sell-off, falling from $4,444 to $3,933.
Afterward, the tokens continued to trade within a bearish pattern for several days, eventually dropping below the crucial support level of $3,850 on August 15. From there, ETH’s price began to Consolidate and later recovered.
In comparison, the recent sell-offs by Cumberland and ParaFi Capital are smaller in scale, and their impact on ETH’s price may not be as severe. Nonetheless, the market will be keeping a close eye on the follow-up price action to gauge the direction of ETH’s price trend.
Meanwhile, as ETH holders continue to sell their tokens, price projections for $FXG and SUI suggest it’s time to bag these tokens. Let’s dive in!
