The Institute of International Finance (IIF) Acknowledges Ripple and XRP as Viable Alternatives for Cross-border Payments
May 14, 2025 at 02:37 pm
The IIF's response to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) consultation through its Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI) under the G20's roadmap to modernize and enhance global payments.
The Institute of International Finance (IIF), a major voice in global finance policy, has recognized Ripple (NYSE:R) and XRP as viable alternatives for cross-border payments in its response to the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) consultation through its Committee on Payments and Market Infrastructures (CPMI), under the G20’s roadmap to modernize and enhance global payments.
This recognition was spotted by WrathofKahneman (WOK), a well-known commentator within the XRP community, in a recent post. He noted that while the paper acknowledged Ripple’s blockchain-based model using XRP, it did not reference RLUSD, Ripple’s newly launched stablecoin, despite mentioning other stablecoins.
In this January consultation with the BIS, the The Institute of International Finance (IIF) responded how to bolster crossborder payments. The mention #XRP on #Ripple's network as an alternative rail. Also mention stablecoins, though #RLUSD was likely too new for consideration. Since then, RLUSD has already been integrated into Ripple Payments. pic.twitter.com/LD9Wk12F5M

The timing of RLUSD’s absence is evident. As the document was submitted in February 2024, and RLUSD’s launch only occurred in December 2024, the stablecoin was likely too recent for inclusion in the IIF’s submission.
Since then, RLUSD has already been integrated into Ripple Payments, Ripple’s enterprise-grade cross-border payment infrastructure.
Announced last year, the integration marks a significant step towards expanding the use cases for Ripple’s stablecoin in facilitating seamless and efficient cross-border transactions.
This integration is part of a broader initiative by Ripple to expand the functionality of its products and provide comprehensive solutions for the global financial market.
Earlier this year, a report by MasterCard recognized Ripple partner SBI Remit for leveraging XRP as a bridge currency within its remittance services, showcasing the practical application of Ripple’s technology in facilitating cross-border payments.
The report, titled "MasterCard Impact Stories: Connecting the World to Priceless Commerce," highlighted SBI Remit's utilization of XRP in its remittance services, aiming to reduce costs and enhance efficiency in cross-border transactions.
SBI Remit, a subsidiary of Japan's SBI Holdings, is a major player in the remittance market, offering services to over 60 countries and regions.
The integration of XRP in SBI Remit's services is part of a broader trend among financial institutions to adopt new technologies and partnerships to improve cross-border payments.
This focus aligns with the G20's agenda to modernize and enhance global payment systems, aiming to create a more inclusive and efficient financial system for the 21st century.
