HBAR Token Soars 47% After BlackRock Fund Tokenization on Hedera Network

Apr 24, 2024 at 07:02 pm

Hedera's native token, HBAR, saw a remarkable 96% surge following the BlackRock fund tokenization. Despite initial speculation, BlackRock was not directly involved, leading to a clarification by industry experts. However, the announcement coincided with the approval of 4.86 billion HBAR for network development, highlighting Hedera's growing adoption and a 33 billion transaction volume in 2023.

HBAR Token Soars 47% After BlackRock Fund Tokenization on Hedera Network

Hedera Network's HBAR Token Surges 96% Following Tokenization of BlackRock Fund

New York, April 24, 2024 - The Hedera Hashgraph network's native token, HBAR, experienced a remarkable surge in value over the past 24 hours, reaching a peak of $0.175 following the tokenization of BlackRock's Institutional Cash Strategies (ICS) US Treasury Money Market Fund on the Hedera blockchain. As of the latest update, HBAR is trading at $0.1305, representing a significant 47.11% increase in the past 24 hours.

However, despite initial speculation suggesting a direct involvement of BlackRock in the tokenization process, the asset management giant was merely "aware" of the move, according to reports. This clarification arose from a misinterpretation of the Hedera Hashgraph Foundation's initial social media post announcing the development on April 23, 2024.

The foundation, which oversees the governance and development of the Hedera network, announced in the post that Archax and Ownera, two blockchain trading and infrastructure firms, had tokenized BlackRock's fund on the Hedera network. The accompanying video footage led some to believe that BlackRock was directly involved in the venture, sparking excitement within the cryptocurrency community.

Chris O'Connor, founder of the Cardano Ghost Fund DAO, later clarified that BlackRock had "no involvement" whatsoever with Hedera's development and criticized the foundation for the way it framed the announcement.

"What actually happened was a HBAR project that, through the secondary market, tokenized shares of a BlackRock fund. Much like I can buy a Rolex, take a picture, and post it on my social media account, that doesn't mean Rolex 'partnered' with me," O'Connor wrote in a social media post hours after the foundation's announcement.

Graham Rodford, co-founder and CEO of Archax, confirmed O'Connor's statement, noting that it was Archax's decision to tokenize BlackRock's fund on Hedera and that "everyone involved was aware" of the move.

Despite the initial price surge, HBAR is still trading over 69% below its all-time high of $0.40, which it reached in September 2021.

The announcement of the BlackRock fund tokenization also coincided with the Hedera Global Governing Council's approval to allocate 4.86 billion HBAR (approximately $408 million at current market prices) for further network development. This move is part of the foundation's efforts to strengthen its user base in 2024.

The Hedera network processed a record 33 billion transactions in 2023, showcasing the growing popularity and adoption of the blockchain platform.

The recent developments have boosted investor confidence in the Hedera network and HBAR, signaling renewed optimism for the platform's future growth and adoption.
