'Hawk Tuah Girl' Haliey Welch revealed that she was not paid in the messy $HAWK crypto coin scandal.

'Hawk Tuah Girl' Haliey Welch revealed that she was not paid in the messy $HAWK crypto coin scandal.

The Girl Who Went Through A Lot Of Trouble For Nothing

Hailey Welch revealed that she wasn’t paid in the messy $HAWK crypto coin scandal. The coin was launched on the Solana blockchain in December and rapidly decreased in value after having its highest market capitalization at roughly $500 million. The coin’s artificial inflation resulted in a lawsuit against the $HAWK creators, while Welch issued a statement, saying that she was “fully cooperating” with authorities in the matter.

Several weeks after speaking candidly about the whole ordeal in a Vanity Fair interview, the Girl, Interrupted star hosted a new episode of the Talk Tuah podcast and further stressed that she wasn’t compensated for the coin, despite having her image plastered on it, and having to deal with fans’ fury over the implosion.

“I got paid a marketing fee, that’s all I made, I did not make a dime for the coin itself. I got paid for the things that I was making, like the TikToks and the Instagram posts and the paid ads and stuff like that. Anything that was raised from that coin, I did not make a dime for it. But at this point, everything I’ve paid for PR crisis, a new lawyer, stuff like that–every bit of it went to that. So I’ve really come out with nothing. All that trouble for nothing,” she said around the 1:30-minute mark.

When asked about her response to fans who bought the coin, Welch said she feels as though she "let them down." "It was my face on the coin so they felt like they could trust me and I could lead them to something good that's gonna be longterm and help them in the long run."

Welch, who previously spoke candidly about how the person who was running the $HAWK campaign caused her Twitter to be "ate up by Crypto stuff," has since been able to largely take a step back from the whole ordeal.

In her VF interview, she spoke warmly about having a "mental break" in the form of largely being a "24/7 dog mom" and spending time with her husband. She also advised other influencers to "definitely be careful what you tie your name into and who you trust."
