Grayscale Executive Michael Sonnenshein Pivots to Asset Tokenization
Dec 13, 2024 at 04:32 am
Ten-year Grayscale veteran Michael Sonnenshein who led the digital investment giant from 2021 to 2024 has now joined asset tokenization leader Securitize

Former Grayscale CEO Michael Sonnenshein has joined Securitize, a pioneer in asset tokenization, as its Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The news was shared in a press release with Bitcoin.com News on Monday. Sonnenshein will now be working with Securitize, a platform that has gained significant attention for its role in tokenizing real-world assets.
Earlier this year, Securitize partnered with Blackrock, the world’s largest investment manager, to launch the Blackrock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL) on the Ethereum blockchain in March.
The BUIDL fund, which is now the largest tokenized fund in the world with a market capitalization of $550 million, has since expanded to other blockchains, including Avalanche and Aptos.
Sonnenshein, a 10-year Grayscale veteran, began his career at the digital asset manager in 2014 as an account executive. He quickly rose through the ranks at Grayscale, eventually becoming the company’s CEO in 2021.
After stepping down from the role earlier this year, Sonnenshein was succeeded by Goldman Sachs executive Peter Mintzberg. The circumstances surrounding Sonnenshein’s resignation from Grayscale have not been disclosed.
In a statement to Bitcoin.com News, Carlos Domingo, the CEO and co-founder of Securitize, described Sonnenshein as a “visionary” and a “trailblazer” who has “helped pave the way for establishing digital assets as a mainstream investment class.”
Sonnenshein’s transition to Securize comes at a time when experts are predicting massive growth in the asset tokenization领域.
A recent research report by Bank of America, published in 2023, predicts that “traditional asset tokenization may reach $16 trillion-plus, transforming infrastructure and markets over the next five to fifteen years.”
Commenting on his new role at Securitize, Sonnenshein said:There is massive demand for tokenization, and I am thrilled to join Securitize at such a pivotal moment for the company and the industry.
