The Graph's GRT token has resurged, surpassing $1 billion market capitalization. This growth reflects the platform's ecosystem expansion and increased data consumer revenue in 2022, particularly in Q4. GRT's alignment with AI-related tokens and its role as the leading platform in AI and big data crypto projects contribute to its recent rally.

The Graph's GRT Token Surges, Reflecting Ecosystem Expansion and AI Correlation
January 23, 2023
The Graph, a leading blockchain indexing protocol, has once again surpassed a $1 billion market capitalization, reaching a significant milestone. This resurgence follows a period of sustained ecosystem growth throughout 2022, particularly in the fourth quarter.
The Graph's native token, GRT, embarked on a steady climb at the commencement of 2023, reversing its downtrend from the latter half of 2022. Currently, GRT trades at approximately 13 cents, marking a notable 55% increase over the past seven days. This market capitalization surge mirrors the protocol's impressive ecosystem expansion, with GRT's value previously peaking above $5 billion before experiencing a decline alongside the broader crypto market's downturn late in 2021.
The Graph's protocol alleviates the need for data consumers, including app developers, to establish complex infrastructure for on-chain data acquisition. Its capabilities extend to indexing data from a diverse array of 26 blockchain networks, prominently featuring Ethereum, Near, Arbitrium, Optimism, Polygon, Avalanche, Celo, Fantom, Moonbeam, and IPFS.
According to a February report on The Graph by Messari, the project generates revenue primarily through two channels: inflationary indexing rewards and query fees paid by data consumers. Data from the report indicates a remarkable 66% quarter-over-quarter increase in GRT revenue from query fees during the fourth quarter of 2022. In terms of USD value, this represents a 5% quarterly rise and a significant 265% surge year-over-year. The report further projects a sustained increase in query fees as more subgraphs transition to the mainnet in the upcoming quarters.
Some analysts attribute GRT's recent rally to its association with artificial intelligence (AI)-related tokens, which have experienced a considerable upward trend attributed to the "ChatGPT effect." CoinMarketCap ranks The Graph as the leading platform in market capitalization among "the most valuable AI and big data crypto projects and tokens." According to Pablo Jodar, crypto analyst at GenTwo, "I believe there is a connection between the rally in AI stocks and the GRT token, likely driven by the ChatGPT effect."
In January 2022, The Graph secured $50 million in a funding round spearheaded by Tiger Global Management, further solidifying its position within the blockchain ecosystem.
