Franklin Templeton Boosts Arbitrum with Tokenized Assets

Aug 09, 2024 at 10:27 pm

Tokenized assets are really coming into their own, and it's thanks in part to big names from traditional finance. Franklin Templeton, for example, launched its OnChain US Government Money Market Fund a while ago, and it was only available on a couple of chains. Now, it's also on Arbitrum, alongside Stellar and Polygon where it's been for some time.

Franklin Templeton Boosts Arbitrum with Tokenized Assets

Franklin Templeton recently made its OnChain US Government Money Market Fund available on Arbitrum, adding to its existing presence on Stellar and Polygon. This move highlights Arbitrum's strong presence in the tokenized assets space and marks a significant development for the industry.

Major players from traditional finance are driving the rise of tokenized assets. Franklin Templeton launched its OnChain US Government Money Market Fund earlier, with initial availability on a limited number of chains. However, the fund is now accessible on Arbitrum, joining Stellar and Polygon, where it has been present for some time.

We’re hyped to have access to the BENJI platform and see a major financial institution, Franklin Templeton, building on Arbitrum!

Arbitrum's debut in a thriving segment of the crypto industry is a notable event. Moreover, this move bodes well for the broader tokenized asset sector, which is expanding beyond the mainstream chains.

Arbitrum, a layer 2 solution on Ethereum, is joining the RWA (Real World Assets) wave, which spans multiple chains. This trend is set to gain momentum in the upcoming cycle.

Highlight: Arbiturm’s Debut, RWA Trend

Arbitrum stands to gain the most from this development, attracting attention from financial media. Additionally, the RWA domain appears to be recognizing one of blockchain's key strengths: the ability to utilize diverse networks and their respective advantages.

The fund in question is a major player, boasting $420 million in assets under management and specializing in the money market. Currently, it caters exclusively to professional investors. The fund allocates a minimum of 99.5% of its assets to US bonds, REPOs, and cash.

This marks Franklin Templeton's first major venture into blockchain, although the company previously launched Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs.

RWA: A Chain and Layer 2 Competition?

This scenario seems likely, especially considering Ethereum's dominance as the primary ecosystem for various reasons. It hosts the highest liquidity and is likely the most reliable network for fund managers.

BlackRock, for instance, has already launched an Ethereum fund with potential plans for expanding the lineup. We covered this topic in a recent YouTube video, discussing the critical role of major intermediaries in driving this sector's growth within crypto.

Wrapping Up: Tokenized Assets Gaining Momentum

Franklin Templeton's presence on Arbitrum marks a significant moment in the rising momentum of tokenized assets. Arbitrum's strong presence in the L2 for Ethereum space is evident, and the increasing involvement of major financial players highlights the growing importance of this sector.

It will be interesting to follow the competition among chains and L2s in the upcoming cycle.
