The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has collaborated with Ava Labs, the team behind the popular Avalanche L1 blockchain network, to create its own NFT blockchain network.
As part of a broader move to spin up its own blockchain network, football governing body Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has joined forces with Ava Labs, the team behind the popular Avalanche L1 blockchain network, to create its own NFT blockchain.
The international football federation had teased the creation of a blockchain last month and also vowed to move its non-fungible token collections from the Algorand network to its upcoming Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchain network.
“We’re excited to announce that we’re launching our own blockchain with Ava Labs. This will allow us to create an even better experience for our NFT collectors with improved performance and scalability,” FIFA said in a statement on May 21.
“We’re also looking forward to offering new and exciting NFT collections in the future.”
Earlier this month, Chief Business Officer at Ava Labs John Nahas confirmed in a short interview with CoinDesk that they have partnered with the International Football Federation (FIFA) to create its own blockchain network.
Speaking about the integration, Nahas said that the new blockchain network is EVM-compatible and is expected to offer enhanced trading performance, future features, and improved scalability. The NFT network went live yesterday.
“The Avalanche protocol is designed for enterprises and organizations looking to build custom, high-performance blockchain solutions. FIFA’s decision to launch its L1 on Avalanche is a testament to our technology’s ability to support global-scale applications with speed, flexibility, and security,” said Dan McNeely, Chief Technology Officer at Ava Labs.
Launched in 2021, Ava Labs is a blockchain company that develops software and a platform called Avalanche, which enables the creation, launch, and management of decentralized applications and custom blockchain deployments. They focus on making it easier for organizations and developers to build high-performance solutions for Web3, leveraging the capabilities of the Avalanche blockchain.
Ava Labs’ Avalanche L1 is a sovereign blockchain network that defines its own rules regarding its membership and token economics. It is composed of a dynamic subset of Avalanche network validators working together to achieve consensus on the state of one or more blockchains. Each blockchain is validated by exactly one Avalanche L1, while an Avalanche L1 can validate many blockchains.
Announced last month, the International Football Federation is introducing its new blockchain network, marking a departure from its previous partnership with the Algorand blockchain for its NFT marketplace, FIFA+ Collect.
The new integration will see the launch of an Ava Labs-powered blockchain network, designed to provide optimal performance and scalability for non-fungible token collectors.
Earlier this year, FIFA announced the migration of its NFTs from the Algorand blockchain to its own blockchain network. The decision comes as part of a broader shift in the NFT industry towards L1s.
Announced in 2022, FIFA+ Collect is an online platform developed by the International Football Federation to serve as a hub for its NFT collection. The platform features a variety of digital collectibles linked to some of the world’s most popular football leagues and tournaments.
Available on both web and mobile applications, FIFA+ Collect allows fans to collect, trade, and display their NFTs. It is accessible to users in most regions of the world through the FIFA website and app.
Earlier this year, FIFA teased the creation of its own blockchain network, which it says will offer a more enhanced experience for users of its NFT platform.
Announced last month, the new blockchain network is expected to offer enhanced performance and scalability for non-fungible token collectors.
The international football federation also announced that existing owners of FIFA Collect NFTs will be able to access their collectibles on the new blockchain network.
According to reports, the new blockchain network will be powered by Ava Labs’ L1 technology.
Ava Labs is best known for its Avalanche blockchain, a high-throughput L1 network that is designed for speed and scalability.
The new blockchain network is expected to offer a superior trading performance compared to Algorand, which is known for its slow transaction speeds.
Moreover, the new blockchain network will offer users the ability to connect their crypto wallet accounts to access their NFTs. Currently, FIFA Collect users can only view their NFTs through the platform’s application programming interface.
Announced in 2022, the partnership between FIFA and Algorand saw the creation of a platform for users to collect, trade, and display NFTs.
The new blockchain network is expected to offer a wide range of digital collectibles, including highlight moments from major football matches.
According to reports, the new blockchain network will be fully EVM-compatible, allowing developers to easily port over their smart contracts and dApps from the Ethereum blockchain.
Earlier this year, FIFA announced that it would be shutting down its Algorand-powered NFT platform and migrating its NFTs to a new blockchain network.
The decision to move away from Algorand was made in order to create a more customized and scalable NFT platform with Ava Labs.
