Ethereum Set for Stellar Surge as SEC Decision on Ether ETFs Looms

Apr 24, 2024 at 05:19 pm

Ethereum (ETH) is poised for a major rally as the US SEC nears a decision on spot Ether ETFs. The altcoin has rallied 3% in the past 24 hours and is aiming to retest its all-time high. Short-term Bitcoin holders are rotating their profits into altcoins, further fueling the potential rally. Meanwhile, Grayscale and BlackRock have filed for spot Ether ETFs, increasing the pressure on the SEC to approve them.

Ethereum Set for Stellar Surge as SEC Decision on Ether ETFs Looms

Ethereum Poised for an Uproarious Climb to Retest Historic Highs Amid Imminent SEC Decision on Ether ETFs

Ethereum (ETH), the undisputed leader in the web3 ecosystem, is on the cusp of an electrifying phase within the broader crypto bull market. With over $279 billion in bridged Total Value Locked (TVL) facilitated through its ubiquitous Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Ethereum is poised to embark on a thrilling ascent.

The large-cap altcoin, boasting a fully diluted valuation of approximately $396 billion and an impressive average daily trading volume of around $11 billion, has experienced a notable 3% surge in the past 24 hours, currently trading at roughly $3,249.

Buoyed by a bullish close last week, as evidenced by a Doji weekly candlestick pattern, Ethereum price is targeting a retest of its all-time high in the near future. Moreover, short-term Bitcoin (BTC) holders are actively rotating their profits into the altcoin market, contributing to the ongoing crypto cash rotation.

Spot Ethereum ETF Decision Imminent

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has approximately one month remaining before the official deadline for its decision on spot Ether ETF applications. The same fund managers who received approval to offer spot Bitcoin ETFs earlier this year are now vying for the opportunity to provide spot Ether ETFs.

It is noteworthy that the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs was largely influenced by a court ruling, which compelled the SEC to apply the same parameters to ETFs as it did to previously approved futures. Given that Ethereum futures have been in existence for several years, there is a strong likelihood that the SEC could follow a similar approach.

However, the agency has expressed concerns that Ethereum may be more akin to a security than a commodity, unlike Bitcoin. Some experts have speculated that the SEC may be hesitant to approve spot Ether ETFs for fear of setting a precedent that other altcoins, such as Ripple-backed XRP, Solana (SOL), and Dogecoin (DOGE), could follow suit.

Despite these concerns, Grayscale Investments LLC filed its form S-3 prospectus with the SEC on April 23, in a bid to convert its Ethereum Trust into a spot Ether ETF. Notably, Grayscale has now submitted all required documentation to the SEC, leaving the agency to make a final decision.

Furthermore, the company has filed an S-1 for a mini Ethereum ETF under the ticker ETH, similar to its BTC mini ETF that is still awaiting SEC approval.

On Tuesday, BlackRock Inc (NYSE: BLK) submitted an amendment to its spot Ether ETF application through form 19b-4. This increased engagement follows the SEC's delayed decisions on two spot Ether ETF applications, submitted by Grayscale and Franklin Templeton.

Ether Price Action

Ethereum price is currently hovering at a critical juncture against Bitcoin. According to renowned crypto analyst Michaël van de Poppe, the anticipated altseason will commence as soon as the ETH/BTC pair rebounds from its current levels. It is worth noting that Bitcoin dominance has been eroding altcoins since early last year.

In conclusion, Ethereum is poised to make a significant upward move as the SEC's final decision on spot Ether ETFs nears. The impending approval of such ETFs could unleash a wave of institutional investment into Ethereum, potentially driving its price to new highs and heralding the beginning of a new era for the altcoin market.
