Ethereum Set to Rise After Bitcoin Halving, Analysts Predict
Apr 05, 2024 at 03:00 pm
Despite a recent price decline, crypto analysts predict a significant upswing in Ether's value within months due to historical patterns and anticipation of a Bitcoin halving. Experts suggest a spot Ether ETF approval could trigger a surge in short liquidations, driving prices higher. Additionally, a clear upward trend has emerged on Ether's price chart, resembling the pattern observed before the last Bitcoin halving, indicating a potential breakout.

Ethereum's Price Poised for a Surge Post-Bitcoin Halving, Analysts Predict
Amidst recent market volatility, cryptocurrency analysts remain optimistic about the long-term prospects of Ether (ETH), predicting a significant price increase in the months following the upcoming Bitcoin halving. Historical data and technical analysis suggest that ETH's price trajectory follows a pattern similar to that observed during the previous Bitcoin halving.
One prominent analyst, Jupiter Zheng, Head of Research at Hashkey Capital, believes that the Bitcoin halving, scheduled for April 20th, will serve as a catalyst for Ether's price appreciation. He argues that the halving, which reduces the issuance of new Bitcoins by half, historically triggers a bull market in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.
However, Zheng cautions that the potential denial of a spot Ether exchange-traded fund (ETF) does not necessarily imply a negative impact on prices. He explains that the market has not fully priced in the potential approval of an ETF, and the availability of Bitcoin ETFs provides an alternative entry point for institutional investors.
Conversely, Zheng emphasizes that the approval of a spot Ether ETF with staking capabilities would be "really bullish." Such an approval could trigger a surge in short liquidations, further driving up the price of ETH.
Recent market action has witnessed a steep decline in Ether's price, resulting in the liquidation of $39.13 million in long positions over the past 24 hours. Additionally, $15.66 million in short positions were liquidated during the same period.
Despite the short-term price fluctuations, analysts believe that the market remains bullish for ETH. At its current price of $3,293, a mere 1.5% drop to $3,250 would trigger $70.96 million in liquidations.
Further analysis of Ether's price chart by popular trader Jelle reveals an ascending triangle formation since June 2023. This pattern historically signifies a potential surge in price.
Jelle notes that the last Bitcoin halving in May 2020 marked a significant turning point for Ether. Within three months, ETH's price surged by over 100%.
Zheng echoes this sentiment, predicting that "ETH season is yet to come."
Meanwhile, regulatory uncertainty remains a concern for the cryptocurrency market. Recent reports indicate that the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is investigating the Ethereum Foundation, potentially classifying ETH as a security. This could delay or even prevent the approval of spot Ether ETFs.
Despite these regulatory headwinds, analysts remain confident in the long-term growth potential of Ether, driven by increasing adoption, DeFi innovation, and the upcoming Bitcoin halving. Investors should be aware that cryptocurrency investments carry significant risk and conduct thorough research before making any decisions.
