Ethereum's 28% drop: What happens if ETH's $2,850 support fails? - AMBCrypto

May 15, 2024 at 08:00 am

Ethereum (ETH) has found support at a critical level within a descending channel, indicating a possible downward trend. Technical indicators, such as RSI, MFI, Elder-Ray Index, and Parabolic SAR, suggest the possibility of a break below this support, potentially leading to a decline towards $2600. However, a break above $2,850 could reverse the trend and push ETH towards $3000.

Ethereum Price Trends Downward, Key Indicators Hint at Continued Decline

The leading altcoin, Ethereum (ETH), currently faces a crucial juncture, with its price hovering at a significant support level within a descending channel pattern. A descending channel is characterized by lower highs and lower lows, indicative of a broader downtrend.

This channel has been in formation since March 12th, with ETH's value declining by 28% during this period. At the time of writing, ETH is trading at $2,915, as per CoinMarketCap data.

Technical indicators suggest the possibility of a break below the current support level of $2,850. Key momentum indicators, including the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and Money Flow Index (MFI), indicate that selling pressure is currently outweighing buying pressure. ETH's RSI and MFI values stand at 39.52 and 49.39, respectively, both below their neutral levels.

Furthermore, ETH's Elder-Ray Index has returned a negative value, confirming the current bearish trend. This indicator measures the relative strength of buyers and sellers in the market, and a negative value suggests that sellers are currently dominant.

The Parabolic SAR (Stop and Reverse) indicator also supports the bearish sentiment. The dotted lines of this indicator are positioned above ETH's price, indicating a downward trend. This suggests that ETH's price has been declining and may continue to do so.

Should ETH bears succeed in breaking below the current support level, the next potential price point for the altcoin is $2,780. However, if this projection is invalidated, ETH could rally above $3,000.

It is important to note that these technical indicators provide insights into potential market direction but do not guarantee specific outcomes. Investors should exercise caution and consider a comprehensive analysis of market factors before making any investment decisions.
