Ethena Labs Winds Down Germany-Based Ethena GmbH’s Operations

Ethena Labs Winds Down Germany-Based Ethena GmbH’s Operations

Ethena Labs, renowned for its Ethereum-based protocol synthesizing dollar $USDe, has announced the closure of its operations in Germany.

The platform is shutting down the operations of its German subsidiary Ethena GmbH, in accordance with an agreement with the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). The company revealed this development on social media in a recent post.

Ethena Labs is winding down the operations of its German subsidiary, Ethena GmbH, following an agreement with the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin). As a result, the platform will not pursue the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation authorization within the German jurisdiction.

This decision follows the shutdown of Ethena GmbH’s redemption and minting operations, which took place on March 21. Since then, Ethena Labs’ British Virgin Islands-based subsidiary, Ethena (BVI) Limited, has been handling the operational functions.

The platform has kept consumers informed about the smooth transition from Ethena GmbH to Ethena (BVI) Limited, with consumers being seamlessly onboarded onto the latter platform.

As a result, consumers no longer have any relationship with Ethena Labs’ German subsidiary, Ethena GmbH, a shift that was carried out at the request of the clients.

According to Ethena Labs, this strategic exit from German jurisdiction and the broader EU regulatory agenda MiCAR marks a notable trend of moving toward more favorable jurisdictions to carry out operations concerning digital assets.

This decision also highlights the unfolding dynamics between centrally controlled cryptocurrency entities and the latest regulatory regimes.
