Sep 12, 2025 at 01:05 am

Ethena, Hyperliquid, and Native Markets: A DeFi Power Play

The DeFi landscape is buzzing with activity, particularly around Ethena's USDe, Hyperliquid's quest for a native stablecoin (USDH), and Native Markets' potential to shake things up. Let's dive into the high-stakes game unfolding in the crypto streets.

The USDH Stablecoin Race: Native Markets in the Lead

Hyperliquid, seeking to bolster its ecosystem, initiated a governance vote to select an issuer for its native stablecoin, USDH. The goal? To keep more value within the Hyperliquid universe and reduce reliance on bridged assets like USDC. Major players like Paxos, Frax Finance, and Ethena Labs threw their hats in the ring, but Native Markets emerged as a strong contender.

Ethena Labs, initially in the running, ultimately withdrew its bid, acknowledging that Native Markets was a better fit as a Hyperliquid-native project. As Ethena Labs founder Guy Young said, this embodies what is so special about Hyperliquid and their community. Prediction markets now give Native Markets a commanding lead in securing the USDH ticker.

Ethena's USDe: A Rising Star in the Stablecoin Galaxy

While Ethena stepped back from the USDH race, its USDe synthetic stablecoin continues to gain traction. Mega Matrix (MPU) has even made Ethena the centerpiece of its digital asset strategy, betting that USDe can challenge established players like Circle. Mega Matrix sees USDe potentially generating $150 million in the next 6-12 months, a 6x upside. USDe offers holders a return through staking and hedging strategies, making it an attractive collateral option.

Mega Matrix is positioning its stock as the first publicly traded digital asset treasury dedicated to the Ethena ecosystem, concentrating reserves in Ethena’s governance token, ENA. This move opens up stablecoin exposure to retail investors beyond options like Circle and Coinbase.
