New £1 error coin featuring King Charles III's portrait and two bees is 'extremely valuable' to collectors

A new £1 error coin has been discovered and it could be worth a lot of money if you find it.

The coin was spotted by TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard, who has over 200,000 followers on the platform. He said that the error coin is all one colour, which is very rare.

“All new £1 coins are made with two metal rings, the outside is made from nickel brass, while the inside is nickel brass plated alloy,” he said in a clip.

“But the rare £1 coin that has been discovered recently is all one colour.”

The coin features King Charles III's portrait, while on the flip side it showcases a fresh 2023 design of two bees to honour the Monarch's love for nature.

The TikTok user also stated that coins with mistakes on them are known as "error" coins and are "extremely valuable to collectors."

He added: "This is because they could be one of a handful or one-of-a-kind, or they're hard to find.

“Even though the Royal Mint has stringent quality control measures in place and the likelihood of coming across any UK coin with an error is incredibly low, it's still worth giving your collection a once-over.”

He concluded: "We always urge collectors to be cautious and to do their research. So finding a £1 all colour is very rare."

The clip quickly racked up 700 likes and a flurry of comments.

One user quipped: "It's only worth what someone pays for it," while others excitedly shared: "I have one."

Another chimed in: "I've got a rare £1 coin."
