EigenLayer Unveils Tokenomics, Stakedrop, Revolutionizing Ethereum Ecosystem
Apr 30, 2024 at 02:09 am
EigenLayer, a restaking protocol with $15.7 billion in deposits, has announced plans for an EIGEN token release, with 45% allocated to the community through stakedrops, ecosystem development, and future initiatives. The initial token distribution of 5% will occur on March 15, redeemable from May 10, with a total supply of 1.67 billion tokens. Investors and early contributors will receive 29.5% and 25.5%, respectively, with a three-year lock-up period. The EIGEN token will also support EigenLayer's Actively Validated Service (AVS) for data availability, enabling a wide range of applications to be built on the protocol.

EigenLayer Unveils Tokenomics and Stakedrop Plan, Poised to Transform Ethereum Ecosystem
EigenLayer, the groundbreaking restaking protocol that has amassed an astonishing $15.7 billion in deposits, has unveiled its long-awaited whitepaper, confirming plans for the highly anticipated EIGEN token. This token distribution, expected to be one of the largest in the history of blockchain reward giveaways, promises to revolutionize the Ethereum ecosystem.
Token Allocation and Distribution
According to the Eigen Foundation, the non-profit organization supporting the protocol, a total supply of approximately 1.67 billion EIGEN tokens will be minted. Notably, 45% of these tokens will be allocated to the EigenLayer community, divided among three subgroups:
- Stakedrops: 15%
- Future community initiatives: 15%
- Ecosystem development: 15%
The foundation ingeniously calculated the token supply based on the phrase "Open Innovation" encoded onto a classic telephone keypad, resulting in the precise count of 1,673,646,668.28466 tokens.
Tokenomics Breakdown
Investors will receive a significant portion (29.5%) of the token supply, while early contributors will be granted 25.5%. Both groups will face a three-year lock-up period, ensuring stability and long-term commitment to the project.
Stakedrop Season 1
The Eigen Foundation announced the first "season" of the stakedrop, scheduled for March 15th at Ethereum block No. 19437000. During this event, 5% of the token supply will be distributed to users based on their staking activity. Claiming of these EIGEN tokens will be available from May 10th for a period of 120 days.
Securing EigenDA with EIGEN
Upon the launch of the EIGEN token, users will be empowered to secure EigenDA, EigenLayer's Actively Validated Service (AVS) for data availability, using their EIGEN tokens. The foundation anticipates the emergence of additional AVSs, further expanding the utility and functionality of EigenLayer.
Intersubjective Forking: A Novel Technological Advance
The EIGEN drop introduces a revolutionary technological concept known as "intersubjective forking." This feature addresses instances of misbehavior that cannot be objectively identified on-chain but are unanimously recognized as deserving of penalty.
The intersubjective forking mechanism empowers AVSs to make a broader range of credible commitments, vastly expanding the possibilities for applications and services built on EigenLayer. These applications could include transaction ordering, databases, prediction markets, storage services, oracles, artificial intelligence, and more.
Conclusion
EigenLayer's tokenomics and stakedrop plan represent a pivotal moment in the evolution of the Ethereum ecosystem. With its innovative restaking mechanism, vast community allocation, and cutting-edge technological advancements, EigenLayer is poised to reshape the landscape of decentralized applications and services. The anticipated EIGEN token distribution promises to be a transformative event for the blockchain industry, attracting widespread participation and ushering in a new era of decentralized innovation.
